Gathy's Bid for Number Two Comes Up Short

Michael Gathy
Michael Gathy

Stud 8:

Last night, Michael Gathy was busy capturing his first World Series of Bracelet in Event 21: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em for $440,829, but that didn't stop him from entering today's event. Unfortunately, he must have used up all of his luck last night as he was recently eliminated.

We didn't catch the entire hand, but we do know Gathy was sent packing after his opponent held {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for trips.

Gearing Up For The Big One

Mike Sexton
Mike Sexton

Mike Sexton, who recently announced that he will be playing the $1 million buy-in Big One for One Drop next month, is building a nice stack here on Day 1. Sexton just took down a nice pot in the Limit Hold'em round to surpass the 8,000 mark.

A player in the cutoff raised preflop and Sexton called from the big blind. Sexton checked-called the {Q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop and then both players checked through the {Q-Clubs} turn. When the {3-Clubs} hit the river, Sexton bet 600 and got a reluctant call from his opponent. Sexton tabled {9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} for two pair, and hit opponent mucked.
