On the first hand back from break, all the players were seated except for David Chiu. He was the big blind, which constituted a little less than 10% of his stack, and ended up sacrificing it as he didn't return to the tournament until the start of the next hand.
On his first hand back from break — the table's second hand — David Chiu got almost his whole stack in.
The pot began with Elior Sion raising under the gun, and Stephen Chidwick three-bet from the button. Chiu cold-called from his small blid, Sion flatted, and off they went three ways.
The flop brought , and Chidwick made his continuation bet. Chiu check-raised, Sion folded, and now Chidwick was the one doing the flatting.
Chiu fired right back out on the turn, but now Chidwick took pause and raised with an eye to Chiu's remaining stack. Chiu called there, then check-called one last bet on the river. It left him with just a scant few remaining orange chips.
Robby Rasmussen raised under the gun and received calls from David Chiu, Ylon Schwartz and Elior Sion. The saw Schwartz lead out from the small blind, Sion fold, Rasmussen call, and Chiu get out of the way.
The turn saw Rasmussen call a bet from Schwartz, which he followed up with a bet when his opponent checked the river.
Schwartz looked pained at the decision as he mumbled aloud. "I call," he finally said in a tone as if he knew he was beat. Sure enough, he was as Rasmussen rolled over for Broadway.
Elior Sion completed with an up, and Robby Rasmussen defended his bring-in with a in the door.
Sion: (x-x) / / (x)
Rasmussen: (x-x) / / (x)
Sion went ahead and barreled all the way through seventh street, and Rasmussen matched the bet each time. Each time, though, the call came a bit more slowly, and Rasmussen agonized over his river call for a good while.
When his opponent did finally call, Sion announced his eighty-seven. He showed / , and that gets the job done.
With that pot, Sion has just pipped into the chip lead, though the top two stacks are essentially even right now.
Elior Sion completed with an and then called a raise from Robby Rasmussen. From there, Sion check-called a bet on the turn before taking the lead and firing on fifth. Rasmussen called and then retook the lead on sixth, which inspired him to bet. After a call, Rasmussen check-called a bet on seventh only to muck when Sion rolled over a 6-5-4-3-A low.
Elior Sion completed with the , and Stephen Chidwick came along with the showing.
Sion: (x-x) / / (x)
Chidwick: (x-x) / / (x)
Sion led the betting all the way through sixth street with Chidwick calling. Sion took a long sniff at his river card and checked, though, and Chidwick went ahead and put the bet into the middle. Sion tank-called.
Chidwick showed / , and the two pair allowed him to drag the hefty pot. With it comes a boost up over the million mark, and his persistance has brought him all the way back into contention for the bracelet.
In the last 15 minutes, less than five hands have been played. Most were fairly small, while the two big ones ended up being chopped in Stud Hi/Lo. The good news is the blinds and limits are going up, which ought to force the action.
Schwartz checked on fourth, and Rasmussen made the first bet. Chiu raised it, though, and Schwartz check-raised to three bets. Rasmussen tank-folded. Chiu took a look over to see what Schwartz had left in front of him, and it was 260,000 total. With that, Chiu called.
Chiu called bets on fifth and sixth, and Schwartz's dark bet on seventh left him with just 20,000 behind. Chiu paid it off.
Chiu: /
Schwartz: /
Schwartz's jacks up earned him the high half of the pot, but Chiu's low kept him from getting the full thing. Another split pot, and this match has reached something of a stalemate this level.
