Frank Kassela Eliminated in 14th Place ($8,027)

Frank Kassela
Frank Kassela

After the {2-Spades} brought it in, Michael Mizrachi completed only to have Frank Kassela raise it up. The rest of the players got out of the way, Mizrachi put in a reraise and Kassela called off.

Mizrachi: {6-Spades}{4-Diamonds} / {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{A-Hearts} / {2-Spades}
Kassela: {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} / {2-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} / {5-Hearts}

The two men who battled it our for the title of 2010 WSOP Player of the Year were at it again, but it was Kassela who was out in front. The turn wasn't very interesting, while fifth street gave Mizrachi a pair of queens and Kassela two pair. Much to the latter's dismay, sixth street demolished his hopes as Mizrachi spiked an ace for a bigger two pair.

"Are you kidding me?" Kassela asked in disbelief. Seventh street failed to change a thing and Kassela added, "You killed me today, Mike," before making his exit in 14th place.

Shack-Harris Takes a Chunk

Branon Shack-Harris
Branon Shack-Harris

We picked up a pot between Xuan Liu and Brandon Shack-Harris. John Monnette called bets on three streets before folding on sixth.

Liu: (x-x) / {J-Spades} {K-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} / (x)
Shack-Harris: (x-x) / {Q-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {2-Spades} / (x)

Liu led the betting on fourth and fifth streets, and she raised Shack-Harris' sixth-street bet. Seventh street went check-check.

Shack-Harris turned up {K-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} {7-Hearts} / {Q-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {2-Spades}, and his queens up earned him a pot of more than 200,000 chips.

First Lady Staying Alive

Linda Johnson is short on chips, but she has no intentions of leaving just yet.

Johnson got all in a few moments ago against Marsha Waggoner, and she managed to take half the pot. She made a flush on sixth street, and Waggoner puller her low on seventh to chop it up.

A few hands later, Johnson got it in on third with aces against Chris Tryba. The hands ran out thusly:

Johnson: {A-Clubs} {A-Spades} / {4-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {6-Spades} {6-Clubs} / {8-Spades}
Tryba: {Q-Spades} {J-Clubs} / {J-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {4-Hearts} / {5-Hearts}

Aces up beat two jacks, and Johnson has doubled back over 50,000 with that scoop.

A Good Old-Fashioned Rant

John Monnette
John Monnette

A fun one between John Monnette and Marsha Waggoner — complete with name calling and all. Monnette completed with the {6-Diamonds}, and Waggoner called along with a six of her own, the {6-Spades}.

Monnette: (x-x) / {6-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} / (x)
Waggoner: (x-x) / {6-Spades} {7-Spades} {J-Spades} {K-Diamonds} / (x)

Monnette bet his lead all the way through sixth, and Waggoner called those three streets. Monnette checked the river, and Waggoner checked it back.

"Aces," she said as she tabled her hand. It read: {A-Hearts} {A-Spades} {3-Spades} / {6-Spades} {7-Spades} {J-Spades} {K-Diamonds}.

Without missing a beat, Monnette announced his "Aces up," and tabled {A-Clubs} {10-Spades} {3-Hearts} / {6-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}. He did indeed have aces up, but his hand was second-best.

The dealer grabbed Waggoner's cards and scooped them together, but she caught him. "Wait, can you spread those back out?" she asked. The dealer obliged, and now Waggoner realized the mistake.

"That's a flush," someone said. And Monnette lost it. He's a particularly sharp poker player, and that gives him somewhat of a short temper when others make mistakes at the table.

"Oh my f***ing god! She f***ing slowrolled me," he said as he spun out of his chair.

Waggoner is quite the lady, and she fired right back. "Excuse me? You're an idiot for saying that to me."

By now, Monnette was upset at everyone, and a few of the other players began to join in the debate.

"It wasn't mucked!" someone yelled at Monnette.

"That's because he (the dealer) didn't do his job!" Monnette answered.

"Is that really how you want to win a pot?" someone else asked.

"If she's too incompetent to realize what she has, then yes," Monnette snapped back.

It took a few more minutes for the situation to be pacified, and T.D. Charlie did an admirable job of explaining the ruling and calming everyone down. Essentially, once a hand is tabled, the cards speak. Waggoner gets the pot, and Monnette is none too pleased with that.

"Grey Goose with Grapefruit"

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Cory Zeidman
Cory Zeidman

Cory Zeidman informed us that only on the rarest of occasions does he enjoy an adult beverage before dark, but this must qualify as he recently ordered a Grey Goose and grapefruit from the waiter. Zeidman then said he was going to give the waiter an opportunity to win a $20 tip if he could say, "Grey Goose and grapefruit," ten times fast without messing up. The waiter was flattered, but declined to give it a try.

Monnette Stands His Ground

We caught a heads-up pot between Xuan Liu and John Monnette.

Liu: (x-x) / {4-Clubs} {7-Spades} {2-Spades} {Q-Spades} / (x)
Monnette: (x-x) / {4-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} / (x)

Monnette led the betting on fifth street, but Liu bet her own lead on sixth. Monnette called a bet there, and another one on seventh.

Liu: {10-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {2-Clubs} / {4-Clubs} {7-Spades} {2-Spades} {Q-Spades}
Monnette: {K-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {3-Clubs} / {4-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}

A pair of treys beats a pair of ducks any day, and Monnette's persistence earned him the full pot.
