A New Chip Leader Emerges

Mike Sexton Eliminated in 15th Place ($6,532)

Mike Sexton
Mike Sexton

Mike Sexton appeared to bring it in for the full 8,000 only to have Michael Mizrachi raise to 16,000. Sexton made a hesitant call and then check-called a bet on the turn. On fifth street, Mizrachi took the lead and led out, putting the pressure on Sexton and his stack of 23,500. The latter thought for a minute before committing himself, which Mizrachi called.

Mizrachi: {3-Hearts}{J-Clubs} / {J-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} / {2-Spades}
Sexton: {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} / {8-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{9-Hearts} / {6-Diamonds}

Sexton held a pair of sevens and needed help to overcome Mizrachi's jacks. Unfortunately for him, neither sixth nor seventh delivered salvation and he was eliminated in 15th place. Combined with his runner-up finish last year, Sexton has proven he is truly one of the best at Seven Card Stud Hi-Low 8-or-Better.

Kassela Doubles

Frank Kassela
Frank Kassela

Frank Kassela got himself all in against Cory Zeidman.

Kassela's first six cards read: {A-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} / {A-Spades} {7-Clubs} {J-Spades} {5-Clubs}.

Zeidman was working with {7-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} / {2-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {K-Diamonds} {A-Hearts}, and he pulled a {4-Spades} on the river to make kings up. That meant Kassela needed to draw a friendly card to stay alive.

He did. The {8-Spades} appeared face-up in front of him, and aces up earn him the much-needed double.

Owais Ahmed Eliminated in 17th Place ($5,416); David Singer in 16th ($6,532)

Owais Ahmed - 17th place
Owais Ahmed - 17th place

Amid the recent flurry of eliminations, we were hard pressed to capture all the hands. One that we missed was Owais Ahmed, though we do know he was eliminated by Yarron Bendor, who made a wheel on fifth with {2-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} / {A-Spades}{3-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{7-Clubs} / {9-Hearts}.

Meanwhile, a short-stacked David Singer was eliminated in 16th place, edging into the next pay jump.

Jerrod Ankenman Eliminated in 18th Place ($5,416)

Jerrod Ankenman got himself all in against Mike Sexton, and the board ran out like this:

Ankenman: {8-Spades} {7-Clubs} / {2-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {J-Clubs} / {2-Hearts}
Sexton: {A-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} / {8-Clubs} {7-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} / (x)

Sexton had one card to come, and Ankenman had a sweat. He was in front with his lowly pair of deuces, and he had a chance to scoop the pot if the poker gods were willing. But Sexton yanked the {10-Hearts} from the deck to make a pair of tens, taking the full pot and the rest of Ankenman's short stack.

Frankie O'Dell Eliminated in 20th Place ($5,416)

Frankie O'Dell - 20th place
Frankie O'Dell - 20th place

Yarron Bendor and Frankie O'Dell mixed it up in a third-street raising war that left O'Dell all in. The board ran out like so:

Bendor: {A-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} / {A-Spades} {J-Spades} {9-Spades} {10-Clubs} / {6-Hearts}
O'Dell: {K-Hearts} {Q-Spades} / {A-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} / (x)

O'Dell had to make a low on seventh to stay afloat, but a blank has sent him off to the exit in 20th place.
