Hennigan Busts Cloutier

Eric Cloutier has been eliminated
Eric Cloutier has been eliminated

Pot-Limit Omaha

Eric Cloutier opened with a raise to 6,500 from the cutoff seat and John Hennigan called from the button. In the big blind, Jon Spinks made the call to be the third player in the hand and the flop came down {10-Spades}{7-Hearts}{2-Clubs}.

With 20,700 in the middle, Spinks checked and Cloutier bet 11,500. Hennigan announced a pot-sized raise and made it 55,200. Spinks took a little bit then folded. Cloutier thought longer, but he decided to put all of his money in for a little bit more than the raise. Hennigan quickly called.

Hennigan held top two pair and a straight draw with the {J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Clubs}. Cloutier had the {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts} for a pair of aces.

The turn was the {K-Spades} and river the {Q-Clubs}, leaving Cloutier's hand second best and sending him to the rail. Hennigan moved to right around 400,000.

Steicke's Bluff Fails

David Steicke is a well known high roller who usually only shows up for the bigger buy-in events. Steicke won the $100,000 tournament during the Aussie Millions in 2009, and finished fourth in the same event in 2011. We just saw a hand develop between Steicke and this year's bracelet winner John Monnette.

On a {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}{5-Clubs} flop Steicke checked to Monnette who bet 5,900 into a 11,9,00 chip pot. Steicke tanked for a bit and called.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and both players checked. The river was the {A-Hearts} and Steicke quickly bet 15,100. Monnette gave it some thought and eventually flicked in the chips in order to make the call. Steicke immediately mucked his cards, after which Monnette turned over {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}.

Monnette is up to well over 200,000 while Steicke drops below 100,000.

Chen Pulls The Trigger

No-Limit Hold'em

We just saw fireworks on the first hand of No-Limit Hold'em between Bill Chen and George Danzer. The action was folded to Chen who raised to 6,500 from the button. Danzer was in the big blind and he made the call.

The flop came down {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, and Danzer checked to Chen who quickly threw out three chips worth 5,000 each.

"How much do you have behind," Danzer asked Chen, who did a rough count and ended up around 120,000. Danzer slid out 30,000, and his small raise was quickly answered with an all-in shove from Chen.

Danzer didn't seem pleased with this quick move, and took quite some time to make up his mind.

"I should've raised more so I would've committed myself," Danzer said as he folded his cards. "I think I was doing pretty good if you didn't have a set. Did you have a set?" he asked Chen who said he didn't.

"Did you have aces?" Danzer continued his quest for answers, and Chen also denied this guess. "Well, I guess I was getting a good price then. I had ten-eight," Danzer said.

"I bet you just had a nine, you sick gambler!" Danzer finally said, and Chen started laughing.

"Maybe I'm a sick gambler," Chen said with a smile as he stacked his new chips.

Doyle Brunson (Day 1)

Omaha-8

Doyle Brunson raised from middle position and Charles Pacheco called from the button. Andy Bloch called from the small blind and David Oppenheim called from the big blind.

With four players in action, the dealer dealt the {10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop and action checked to Brunson. He bet and Pacheco folded. Bloch called, then Oppenheim folded.

Two players stayed in until the turn, which brought the {A-Hearts}. Bloch checked and Brunson bet. Bloch called.

The river completed the board with the {J-Clubs} and Bloch led out. Brunson raised and Bloch called.

Brunson showed the {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}{4-Spades}{3-Spades} for the wheel and Bloch mucked his hand.
