Big One For Reynolds

We don't know exactly how the action went, but we know Stephen Reynolds managed to have one of the larger stacks all in and at risk preflop.

Reynolds: {A-Hearts}{k-Hearts}
Opponent: {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

The flop came {3-Hearts}{k-Spades}{7-Hearts} putting Reynold's opponent in a spot where he could only hit the {q-Diamonds} and not have a heart fall on the turn or the river. The {2-Hearts} on the turn sealed the deal, and Reynold's opponent was eliminated as the meaningless {10-Hearts} fell on the river.

Reynolds almost has 500,000 and is one of the clear chip leaders in the room.

Gruissem Eliminated and Morgensztern Triples

Philipp Gruissem has been eliminated
Philipp Gruissem has been eliminated

We have an elimination and a double up to report.

Firstly, the elimination and we have lost the dangerous German player Philipp Gruissem. We joined the action on the turn with the board showing {A-Spades} {K-Spades} {5-Clubs} {6-Spades} and Gruissem had moved all-in for 37,000. His opponent, in the hand, was Bobby Moore and while he was in the tank Gruissem started talking to him. We are not sure if this pushed Moore to call, but he did, and Gruissem did not want a call.

"I have my favourite hand, but it's no good on that board," said Gruissem before tabling {9-Hearts} {6-Hearts}.

Moore turned over {K-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} for second pair and after the {4-Hearts} came on the river he moved up to 200,000; Gruissem was out.

The triple up came courtesy of Vanessa Selbst and the benefactor was Gil Morgensztern. Selbst was holding {K-Spades} {3-Spades}, Morgensztern was holding {K-Hearts} {J-Spades} and a third player in the hand had folded under an isolation raise by Selbst. The board ran out {Q-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds}, Morgensztern moved up to 65,000 and Selbst now had 270,000.

Hunter Becomes the Hunted

Hunter Frey started out a recent hand by making it 8,000 from the button. The small blind made the call, while the big blind opted to move all in for about 75,000. Action found its way back to Frey who took his time before announcing all in himself for around 200,000. The small blind then seemed visible distraught and took plenty of time off the clock deciding the best course of action. In the end though he gave a struggled fold and cards were tabled.

Frey: {A-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Big Blind: {A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

The board came {3-Clubs}{2-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{k-Hearts}. With the six on the turn the big blind took the lead and never gave it back. Frey now sits with around 150,000 after losing the hand.

Akenhead & Zolotow Are Out; Heinz and Reynolds Moving Upwards

Pius Heinz is making waves
Pius Heinz is making waves

There are seventy-eight players left with forty-minutes to go before the dinner break and here is a news update for you.

The big success story of the level has been William Reynolds. Reynolds has over $1.5 million in live tournament earnings and has so far cashed in 3 events this Summer. Reynolds is currently sitting on a stack of 500,000.

Another shaker during the previous few levels is our World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event Champion. Pius Heinz is sitting on 300,000 chips despite just doubling-up Joseph Gualtieri {A-Clubs} {J-Clubs} v {9-Hearts} {9-Clubs}.

We reported earlier how James Akenhead had doubled Alessandro Speranza, well Akenhead is now out. He got it in with {10-} {10-} v {J-} {J-} of Daichi Oda and Oda's hand stayed strong. Joining Akenhead on the rail is our two-time WSOP bracelet holder Steve Zolotow. We didn't see how the action unfurled but we do know that Zolotow held {K-Clubs} {J-Clubs} and Steve Schwann held {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} to eliminate him.

Finally, Fernando Brito has doubled up to 108,000 after winning a flip {9-} {9-Diamonds} v {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts}.

Another Double for Pillai

Shankar Pillai seems to be on quite the heater, walking by his table we saw he was in the process of being delivered a large pot from yet another double up.

We don't know exactly how the action went, but what we do know is Pillai managed to get all in and at risk holding {Q-}{k-}, his opponent possessed {A-}{k-}.

The board came {2-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{Q-Spades} and Pillai has now crossed the 200,000 mark, and has moved into the top chip counts.

Double for Pillai

A player in middle position made it 6,000 and Shankar Pillai three-bet to 12,000 from the hijack. Action then folded over to the big blind who four-bet to 29,000. The middle position player folded and Pillai moved all in. The big blind quickly made the call and cards were turned over.

Pillai: {K-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Big Blind: {J-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

The board came {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{7-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Pillai came out the other side with the best of it and was awarded a double up.

Selbst Rights the Ship

Vanessa Selbst
Vanessa Selbst

The board read {Q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{8-} and Vanessa Selbst managed to get her shorter stacked opponent all in and at risk.

Selbst: {q-Spades}{10-Spades}
Opponent: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}

Selbst had her opponent in a bad place and he needed to hit a nine. The {j-Spades} on the turn gave Selbst's opponent a gut-shot straight draw, but the {k-Spades} on the river sealed the deal and Selbst's opponent was sent packing.
