Mercier's Day Ends Early

Jason Mercier got his chips in good, but it wasn't meant to be today.

After a preflop raise from the player in the hijack seat, Mercier three-bet to 1,675 from the button. Action made its way back to the original raiser, who put in a fourth bet to 3,175. Mercier shoved for 13,900, and the other player called.

Mercier's {K-Spades}{K-Hearts} was out in front of {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}, but the {9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{8-Spades} board gave his opponent a set and a pot worth around 28,000 chips. Mercier's stack was barely covered and he made his way to the rail.

Tilly Takes From Tran

A board was already showing {q-Hearts}{2-Spades}{10-Spades}{4-Hearts} by the time we arrived Jennifer Tilly's table and it was Tilly going up against JC Tran with Tilly to act first. Tilly took her time, eventually betting 1,200. Tran then took his time as well, opting to make the call.

When the {9-Spades} completed the board on the river, Tilly led for 2,500 and Tran folded pretty quickly as Tilly raked in the pot.

Pateychuk Avoids Disaster

Andrey Pateychuk
Andrey Pateychuk

Facing a preflop raise and two calls in front, Andrey Pateychuk three-bet to 1,600 from the small blind. Action folded back to the original raiser, who four-bet shoved for around 7,000. The two flatters folded and Pateychuk instantly made the call.

Seat 5: {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}
Pateychuk: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}

The dealer rolled out a {K-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop, giving Pateychuk's opponent the lead. As Andrey began cutting out chips to send across the table, the {10-Diamonds} fell on the turn to give the Russian pro a set. The meaningless {5-Diamonds} landed on the river and Pateychuk increased his stack to around 17,000. The other player quietly made his way out of the Brasilia room.

Dan Doubles Through Chewy

When we arrived over at Dan Smith and Andrew Lichtenberger's table, Lichtenberger had just finished three-betting and Smith had four-bet all in. It wasn't too much more for Lichtenber as he tumbled in the call.

Smith: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Lichtenberger: {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

Smith was in front by a small margin and then increased that margin when the {7-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop was dealt. Lichtenberger picked up some outs on the {a-Hearts} turn, but it was a double up for Smith once the {5-Spades} completed the board on the river.

Daniel Negreanu believes he has a better chance than most.
Daniel Negreanu believes he has a better chance than most.

We caught up with PokerStars Team Pro Daniel Negreanu and asked a him his thoughts on the One Drop.

He thinks that event will attract 42 players and there is a 5-1 chance that it will sell out.

On his chances in the event:

"I think I have a really good chance. I've had a lot of success in high roller events and against bad players."

Hennigan Crushing

John Hennigan has been doing well early here on Day 1 and that continued when he recently eliminated a player over on his table. We arrived at the action with a board already showing {a-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{6-Clubs}{k-Clubs} and with Hennigan having enough chips out in front of him to put one opponent all in. The player thought for a long time before making the call.

Hennigan tabled his {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} and his opponent look in despair as they turned over {a-Spades}{4-Clubs}. The river changed nothing and Hennigan raked in his new chips.
