Andres Garcia returned from the dinner break as our chip leader, and it didn't take long for him to put his chips to work. In one of the first hands of Level 17, Garcia raised to 10,000 from early position and cleared the field all the way around to Antonin Teisseire in the small blind. The Frenchman squeezed out his cards and then moved all in for 62,000. Garcia made the call and the cards were turned up:
Showdown
Garcia:
Teisseire:
It was a brutal aces-versus-kings situation with Garcia on top. The flop gave Teisseire some runner-runner club hope, but the turn took it away. Teisseire stood up from his chair and prepared to exit, which was about the time the dealer burned and put out the .
Teisseire beamed a big smile after hitting his two outer, while Garcia tried to shake off the small hit to his monster stack.
Allen Kessler opened the action to 10,000 from early position and only Panayote Vilandos in the small blind would make the call. On the flop, Vilandos checked and then raised to 33,000 after Kessler led for 12,500. Kessler took his time to call as the was dealt on the turn. At this point, Vilandos shoved all in, having Kessler covered.
"Probably have three jacks, but i guess i gotta call," Kessler said, committing the rest of his now short stack. His guess wasn't quite correct, but close enough as Vilandos turned over for a flopped set of eights. Kessler's would need some help. The was no help and it was all over for Kessler.
We happened upon the action on the turn with 70,000 in the pot and a board reading . Brendon Rubie, who finished runner-up in Event 28: $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em - Four-Handed, had just bet 17,000 only to have Fabrizio Gonzalez raise to 34,000.
Rubie thought for a long time before putting in the call, and then turned right around and bet out 80,000 on the river. The bet had Gonzalez covered, meaning he'd have to call off his last 77,000 if he wanted to have a showdown. Gonzalez gave it even more thought than Rubie had on the turn, but ultimately decided to preserve his stack and wait for a different spot.
