Chamath Palihapitiya Eliminated in 11th Place ($53,728)

Chamath Palihapitiya - 11th place
Chamath Palihapitiya - 11th place

Derek Gregory opened to 60,000 from under the gun and Chamath Palihapitiya called from the cutoff seat. Amir Lehavot also called from the big blind for a three-way pot.

All three players checked the {8-Hearts}{J-Spades}{3-Spades} flop.

However, when the {2-Hearts} fell on the turn, Lehavot checked again, prompting a 90,000 bet from Gregory. Palihapitiya then pushed all in for his last 275,000. Lehavot folded and action was back on Gregory, who tanked for a good three minutes before eventually calling.

Gregory: {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs} for a pair of deuces.
Palihapitiya: {5-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for a flush draw and inside straight draw.

Palihapitiya had outs, however, the {8-Spades} river bricked for him and he was eliminated in 11th place.

Erik Aude Eliminated in 10th Place ($53,728)

Erik Aude
Erik Aude

Action folded to Dan Smith in the hijack and he raised to 65,000. When action reached Erik Aude in the small blind, he three-bet to 150,000, the big blind folded, and Smith made the call, bringing about the {4-Hearts}{3-Spades}{A-Spades} flop.

Aude proceeded to check-call a bet of 100,000 before checking the {K-Hearts} turn. Smith kept the pressure on with a bet of 220,000, but this time Aude woke up with a check-raise to 500,000. Smith made the call and then snap-called when Aude moved all in for about 660,000 on the {9-Clubs} river.

Aude rolled over {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} for a set, but it was no good against Smith's {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} set of aces. It was a monster pot, and Smith will be taking right around 3,000,000 million to the final table.

First Hand at the Final Table

Kyle Julius raised to 60,000 from the hijack and received a call from Dan Smith in the small blind. The {8-}{J-Clubs}{10-Spades} flop saw Smith check-call a bet of 65,000 before both players checked the {9-Diamonds} turn.

Smith took the initiative on the {J-Spades} river, and then tables {K-Spades}{J-Hearts} when Julius called. It was a strong hand, but not good enough to win as Julius rolled over {Q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a straight.

Gregory Gets One Off Smith

Dan Smith opened to 70,000 from early position and found one caller in Derek Gregory on the button for a heads-up pot.

The flop came {5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} and Smith c-bet for 110,000. Gregory called to a see a turn, which brought the {3-Diamonds}. Both players checked and when the {3-Spades} completed the board, Smith checked once more, prompting a 175,000 bet from Gregory. Smith quickly mucked and Gregory scooped the pot.

Amir Lehavot Eliminated in 9th Place ($67,889)

Amir Lehavot

Amir Lehavot, who won a bracelet last year in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em Event, opened for 65,000 from middle position only to have Kyle Julius three-bet to 120,000 from the button. Both blinds got out of the way, Lehavot made the call, and it was heads-up action to the {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{K-Spades} flop.

Lehavot ended up check-calling a bet of 75,000, and then checked the {10-Clubs} turn. Julius continued his aggression and bet 165,000, and after a few moment's deliberation, Lehavot moved all in for 870,000.

"How much?" Julius asked, a tinge of excitement in his voice. As the floor began to break down Lehavot's stack, Julius said, "I call."

Showdown
Julius: {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}
Lehavot: {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}

Julius held two pair and was out in front, but Lehavot had a monster draw. He could still hit either two pair, trips, a straight or a flush to secure the double.

"Deuce," someone shouted from the rail, knowing a low card would likely secure the win for Julius. The dealer burned one last time and put out the {4-Clubs}, a blank for Lehavot.

Vedes Getting Short

Panayote Vilandos opened to 65,000 from the button and was called by Tommy Vedes in the big blind.

The flop came {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and Vedes check-called an 80,000 bet from Vilandos. Both players checked the {4-Clubs} turn, however, after Vedes checked the {9-Hearts} river, Vilandos fired 175,000 into the middle. Vedes tanked for some time, but eventually chucked out a call. Vilandos tabled {J-Hearts}{Q-Spades} for the nut-straight and Vedes disgustedly mucked.

Vedes is down to his last 200,000.

Tommy Vedes Eliminated in 8th Place ($86,889)

Tommy Vedes
Tommy Vedes

A short-stacked Tommy Vedes moved all in for 145,000 when action folded to him in the hijack, and he was immediately met with a call from Thomas Conway in the cutoff. The button and blinds got out of the way, and the cards were turned up:

Showdown
Conway: {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}
Vedes: {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}

According to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, Vedes was a 63.64% favorite in the hand, and he was mainly looking to dodge a king. Unfortunately for him, he couldn't do it as the flop came down {A-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} and gave him just a 4.24% chance of surviving the hand.

Vedes got up out of his seat, collected his things, and began to bid adieu to the other players, but stopped after the {Q-Clubs} turned, giving him some hope of a chop with a ten. Any hope he had was crushed when the {3-Diamonds} appeared on the river, and Vedes finished shaking hands with the table before taking his leave in eighth place.
