Perkins Flops Trips

Jonathan Duhamel opened to 45,000 on the button, Bill Perkins three-bet to 118,000 from the small blind, and Duhamel called. The dealer spread {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}, and Perkins led out for 115,000. Duhamel called.

The turn was the {7-Clubs}, both players knuckled, and the {2-Hearts} completed the board. Perkins led out for 150,000, and Duhamel called. Perkins tabled {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} for trip kings, and Duhamel mucked.

Ivey and Lamb Butt Heads

Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

From the hijack seat, Antonio Esfandiari raised to 38,000. Ben Lamb called on the button and Phil Ivey called from the big blind.

The flop came down {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{J-Spades} and Ivey checked. Esfandiari bet 52,000 and Lamb called. Ivey also called.

The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and Ivey checked. Esfandiari checked and then Lamb bet 185,000. Only Ivey called to see the river.

The {3-Spades} completed the board and Ivey checked. Lamb fired 750,000 and Ivey thought for a little. He asked how much the bet was for and then thought a little bit longer. Ivey eventually folded and Lamb won the pot.

"I meant to make it 650,000," said Lamb after Ivey folded. Either way, he won the pot.

Flush for Malibu

Giovanni "Malibu" Guarascio limped from middle position only to have Tobias Reinkemeier raise to 65,000 from the hijack. Phil Ruffin made the call from the cutoff, Malibu called the additional 45,000, and it was three-way action to the flop, which came down {7-Spades}{4-Clubs}{4-Spades}.

Malibu checked, Reinkemeier bet 125,000, and Ruffin quickly folded. Malibu made the call and then both players checked the {A-Spades} turn and {6-Spades} river. Malibu rolled over {Q-Spades}{9-Spades} for a flush, and Reinkemeier sent his cards to the muck.

Schwartz Rivers the Wheel

Talal Shakerchi opened to 56,000, Noah Schwartz called in the cutoff, and the button and blinds released. The flop fell {7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, and Shakerchi led for 83,000. Schwartz called.

The turn was the {2-Hearts}, and Shakerchi reached for chips, firing a second bullet worth 175,000. Schwartz called.

The river was the {5-Spades}, and Shakerchi unload the chamber, firing a third and final bullet worth 230,000. Schwartz shot him a look, then tossed in enough chips to make the call.

Shakerchi tabled {7-}{3-} for two pair, but Schwartz had the better of it with {a-}{7-} for a rivered wheel.

Banjout Busts Kyllönen

Jens Kyllönen
Jens Kyllönen

Frederic Banjout just busted Jens Kyllönen. That table, which is Table 401, has now claimed all three players to be eliminated so far on Day 1.

On the {5-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop, Banjout bet an unknown amount and Kyllönen made the call to see the {Q-Clubs} land on the turn. Banjout checked fourth street and Kyllönen fired 405,000. Banjout came back with a punch, check-raising to an even one million. This sent Kyllönen into the tank. He sat there contemplating for approximately three full minutes before moving all in for around 2.43 million. Banjout quickly called holding a flopped wheel with the {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}. Kyllönen held the {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} and was only drawing to a chop.

The river completed the board with the {6-Diamonds} and Kyllönen lost the pot to get sent to the rail. Banjout moved over 7.5 million in chips with a big smile on his face.

Top-Notch Assumption

Level 6 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

Jason Mercier opened to 40,000 from under the gun, and Gus Hansen called in the cutoff seat. The flop fell {3-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}, and Mercier led for 52,000. Hansen called.

Both players checked on the turn ({j-Diamonds}), and the river ({q-Spades}), and Mercier rolled over {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for a pair of nines.

"I assumed I was good when you checked behind," Mercier announced.

"That's a great assumption," Hansen told him. "Top notch."

"Yeah," Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier added. "Nice read, Jason."
