Jason Somerville started the action off in a recent hand by making it 4,000 preflop from the cut off. Somerville received a caller from the button, and when it was time for Jarred Solomon in the small blind to act he opted to move all in for 30,300. Sommerville then moved all in and the button folded.
Sommervile:
Solomon:
With a rolling off the deck for the flop, Sommervile took a defiant lead and managed to hold on to it as the and fell out of the deck for the turn-river respectively. Somerville who took a hit a few hands ago is now back in action with around 80,000 in chips
Joseph Cheong opened with a raise under the gun and Bryan Colin defended his big blind.
The flop came down and Colin check-called a bet of about 5,500 from Cheong, landing the on the turn. It was more of the same as Colin check-called 9,700 from Cheong, leading to the river. Another Colin check led to another Cheong bet, this one for 27,700. Colin took about 60 seconds before he called.
With Kyle Julius making it 4,200 preflop from under the gun, action folded around to Randy Haddox in the small blind who moved in for 32,900 more. Julius made the quick call and both players turned their cards over.
Julius:
Haddox:
A board insured a double up for Haddox, who now has around 70,000 in chips
With action folding to Joe Tehan on the button he opted to make the blinds pay 4,000 to see the flop. Jason Somerville in the small blind had different plans and raised it up to 10,000. After the big blind folded Tehan four-bet to 20,000, to which Somerville responded with a 5-bet all in for 56,500. Tehan completed and made the call, so as is custom the cards were flipped over.
Somerville:
Tehan:
A flop looked perfect for Somerville, but there was still a turn and a river to come. With the on fourth street all Somerville had to do was avoid an ace or a queen and he would double up. The river was a great sight for Somerville who after an initial hit earlier today is now in prime position to make a deep run.
When we last checked in with recent WPT champion Marvin Rettenmaier, he was down to 20,000 (10 big blinds). Well, that changed rather quickly. We'll let Marvin explain:
MadMarvin Marvin RettenmaierShove 25k from btn w q7s, efro calls sb, martins overshoves q7s>aks, next hand kk>jj vs efro up to 160k.. Lol.. Just gotta complain enough!!June 01 2012
And just like that, Rettenmaier is back up to 160,000. Easy game.
Anthony Gargano raised to 4,400 from the hijack and chip leader Ryan Leng called on the button. Hans Winzeler re-raised all in for about 49,000 from the small blind. Gargano called all in for 42,300, Leng folded, and the hands were revealed.
Gargano:
Winzeler:
The board came down as Gargano's flopped set dodged Winzeler's river outs to a straight to secure the double.
Ryan Leng isn't one of the bigger names left in the field, so we asked our chip leader a little about himself during the break.
Leng is originally from Henderson, Nevada, but he moved to Costa Rica after Black Friday to resume his online poker career as "SooDamnLucky" on PokerStars. He since moved to Canada, spending time in Windsor and Vancouver Island, before making his way back to Las Vegas for the World Series of Poker.
Leng says he plans on playing 15 events this summer, including 2-7 lowball (his favorite game), the 10-game mixed event and, of course, the Main Event. He had two cashes at least year's series, both of which came in no-limit hold'em events.
Leng and Fabrizio Baldassari have raced out to a huge lead going into level 15. We'll be keeping an eye on the big stacks throughout the day.
