"Oh My God"

When we reached Table 378, Paul Cogliano was all in for around 100,000 holding {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} on a flop of {k-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Spades}. John Leathart, who is one of our leaders, had him at risk, but he was well behind with {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}.

The turn was the {j-Diamonds}, which gave Leathart three outs to make Broadway (the {10-Diamonds} would give Cogliano a flush).

"Ten-ball," someone shouted.

Amazingly, the {10-Clubs} spiked on the river to eliminate Cogliano from the 2012 Main Event.

"Oh my god," Jason Mercier blurted when the card hit the felt.

"Unlucky man," Leathart offered told Cogliano, who quickly left.

Deeb Making Friends

Freddie Deeb, always on the lookout for a new game.
Freddie Deeb, always on the lookout for a new game.

Freddy Deeb opened for 6,500 and Michael Lipman called. The flop came {K-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {4-Hearts}, Deeb casually tossed out 5,000 and Lipman folded.

Deeb and Lipman had been having a casual conversation before the hand and after the hand the subject changed to where Lipman usually plays poker.

Lipman said he splits time between Costa Rica and the Southern Florida games. Deeb asked if Lipman had any private games he played in so maybe he could give him a call next time he's down there.

Lipman obliged and formally introduced himself and Deeb said, "I'm Freddy Deeb..."

And before he could finish Lipman said, "I know who you are."

"Oh really? How do you know?" he said jokingly.

One Less November Niner

2010 November Niner Soi Nguyen was eliminated by Michael Lipman, who then had a borderline over-the-top celebration.

Nguyen was all in holding {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds} and Lipman called holding {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}. The board ran {5-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {A-Clubs} {10-Spades} {9-Spades} and Nguyen looked shell-shocked at his elimination. He especially did not care for Lipman's celebration which most of the Brasilia Room heard.

Luske Clubs Opponent

Marcel Luske
Marcel Luske

Marcel Luske continues to battle with a below average stack here on Day 3. He's hoping to equal or improve on his previous best finishes in the WSOP Main Event — a 14th-place in 2003 and a 10th-place in 2004.

Just now a short-stacked player in middle position open-pushed for 48,000, and it folded around to Luske in late position who called the raise.

Luske turned over {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and his opponent showed {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds}. The flop seemed relatively benign for Luske's opponent, coming {2-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. But the turn was the {6-Clubs} and river the {4-Clubs} to give the Flying Dutchman a runner-runner flush and the knockout.

Gomez Kills Tim's Day

Jose Gomez opened for 5,000 from middle position and was called by the player in the small blind. Tim Killday then pushed all in for his remaining 72,000 from the big blind and Gomez made the call to put Killday at risk. The player in the small tanked for a bit, but eventually decided to fold.

Killday: {4-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}
Gomez: {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

Gomez was an overwhelming favorite to eliminate Killday and the {10-Spades}{J-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{7-Hearts} board ensured Killday's fate of elimination.
