Scooper For Griffin

"Scooperrrrr," the player to Gavin Griffin's left just said when he announced his cards at showdown. The board read {2-Clubs}{7-Spades}{J-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} when Griffin called a bet from the player on his right who turned over {A-Spades}{5-Spades}{6-Clubs}{8-Hearts} but that wasn't enough against Griffin who had {A-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} for an ace-four low and full house for the high.

Gavin Griffin is chasing his second WSOP bracelet after he won the $3,000 Pot Limit Hold'em even for $270,420 all the way back in 2004. Back then he was the youngest bracelet winner ever but didn't hold that record for long when Eric Froehlich took over a year later winning the $1,500 Limit Hold'em for $303,908. Griffin was also the first player to ever complete the Triple Crown when he won WPT Borgata in 2008 banking over $1.4 million after having already won the EPT Grand Final in 2007, which is still his biggest result. Griffin took how over $2.4 million in that tournament and is looking to add another big result to his impressive list of cashes.

Racener Wins Big Pot, Busts Two Players

John Racener on a roll
John Racener on a roll

John Racener has really built momentum as today has progressed. He's probably one of the only players who would want to play beyond level 20 tonight, as he's on such a rush.

He just eliminated two players in one hand after he made a full house and scooped. Four players saw the {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop and Mikhail Petrov was all-in at this point. Alex Ferrari still had 12,000 back and these went in to call Racener's turn bet. The under-the-gun player called also.

The river brought the {k-Clubs} and Racener bet another 12,000 and was check-called creating a second side pot. Racener opened {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Spades} for the top full house. The under-the-gun player mucked as did Petrov. Ferrari showed {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} for a smaller full house, and mucked also.

Weinman Takes it Without Showdown

We just caught a hand with David Weinman who wasn't on our radar for the most part today. On a {9-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop Weinman bet 6,000 from the small blind and his opponent called. The turn was the {J-Clubs} and Weinman casually threw out 12,000 after which his opponent double checked his cards and folded. Weinman is now up to 165,000 and looking to make it into day two.

Boyd Stays in There

Thayer Rasmussen limped under the gun and Dutch Boyd made the call for 6,000. Allen Bari was on the button and raised to 12,000 after which the big blind, Rasmussen and Boyd all called.

The flop came down {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{J-Clubs} and it got checked to Boyd who lead out for 6,000. Bari was the only player who called and the turn was the {5-Spades}. Both players checked and the river was the {K-Spades}. Boyd threw in 12,000 after taking his time and Bari snapped him off. Boyd showed {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and raked in the pot after Bari double checked his cards and threw them in the muck. "Would you've check-raised or check-called the turn?," Bari asked Boyd who replied that he would've check-called both the turn and the river leaving him with 2,000 chips behind in case he would've lost the hand.

Burt and Boyd Surviving, Conrad Busto

We just saw a high speed three-way showdown between Dutch Boyd, Tim Burt and Chris Conrad. We got all the cards and the suits when both Boyd and Conrad were all in. Burt didn't have much more than the two but was the big stack in this clash.

Chris Conrad{Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Dutch Boyd{A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{3-Spades}
Tim Burt{A-Spades}{K-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{2-Clubs}

The board ran out {8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{J-Hearts} giving Boyd the nut flush and the pot busting Conrad in the process. Burt is now almost just as short as Boyd and both player will be looking for a double up or two before the end of the night.
