After three days of intense play, the 2013 World Series of Poker Event #13: $5,000 Seven-Card Stud Hi-Low 8-or-Better has come to an end. What started with 210 players on Wednesday ended in the early morning hours of Saturday with Mike “The Mouth” Matusow emerging victorious over a stacked final table to win his fourth gold bracelet and the accompanying $266,503 first-place prize.

Matusow, who won the NBC National Heads-Up Championship for $750,000 back in January, had an up-and-down day on his way to victory, which included beating Matthew Ashton in an concentrated heads-up battle.

Ashton, who finished third in Event #5 $2,500 Omaha/Seven-Card Stud Hi-Low 8-or-Better for $86,437 less than a week ago, just missed out on another bracelet, but he had $164,700 in prize money to serve as consolation.

The third and final day saw the final 20 players return to battle down to a winner, and it didn’t take long for the eliminations to mount. Within minutes of the day's start, Russia's Ognjen Sekularac departed in 20th place, and he was soon followed out the door by Will Thompson (19th - $9,583), Timothy Finne (18th - $9,583), Joe Tehan (17th - $9,583), Brian Hastings (16th - $11,528) and Eli Elezra (15th - $11,528), who were actually eliminated on the same hand. Ryan Miller also joined them on the rail in 14th place for $13,877, and that was all before the first break of the day! Ryan Miller also joined them on the rail in 14th place for $13,877, and that was all before the first break of the day!

Over the course of the next two levels, "Crazy" Marco Johnson (13th - $13,877), Richard Chiovari (12th - $17,025), Jose-Luis Velador (11th - $17,025) and Eric Rodawig (10th - $21,190).

In 2011, Rodawig won his first gold bracelet and $442,183 in this very event by defeating Phil Hellmuth in heads-up play. Despite not defending his title in 2012 due to a friend's wedding, Rodawig was intent on winning it for the second time in three years. Unfortunately that dream came to an end in Level 22 (12,000/24,000/3,000). Here's a look at his last hand:

Eric Rodawig: {x-}{x-} / {6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} / {x-}
Mike Leah: {x-}{x-} / {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}{j-Spades}{2-} / {x-}

Mike Leah completed showing the {7-Spades} and Rodawig raised. Leah made the call and then bet when he paired that seven on fourth. Rodawig called off his last 17,000 and showed {A-}{5-}, which gave him a good shot at a low. Leah showed the {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. After the board ran out, Leah received the {3-Clubs} on seventh to make an eight-seven low to go with his pair of sevens, but it wasn't needed as Rodawig somehow missed everything and ended with king high after receiving the {10-Clubs} on seventh. Rodawig exited in tenth place for $21,190.

After Tuan Vo was eliminated in ninth place, the official final table was set with Yuval Bronshtein leading the way and Vladimir Shchemelev on the short stack. Not surprisingly, the Russian didn’t last long, just four hands at the final table in fact. Twelve hands later, one of the fan favorites in Gavin Smith followed him out the door in seventh place.

Sixth-place "honors" went to none other than Tony Cousineau, who fell on Hand #61. Cousineau was down to just 2,000 in the first level of the day, which was barely enough to pay the antes, but managed to make a nice comeback. Nonetheless, he was surely disappointed to finish in sixth and add to his streak of most WSOP cashes, now at 55, without a WSOP bracelet.

Surprisingly, Bronshtein joined him on the rail two hands later and extended his own cashes without a bracelet to 22.

Four-handed play was an extended affair, 79 hands to be exact, but eventually two-time bracelet winner David “Bakes” Baker was eliminated. That brought about three-handed play, which lasted for two hours before Leah ducked out in third.

Heads-up play began with Matthew Ashton, who was celebrating his birthday, holding a 2-1 lead over Matusow, but “The Mouth” was soon able to even up the stacks. Before long he took the lead and there was no looking back.

Congratulations to Mike "The Mouth" Matusow on winning his forth gold bracelet! That does it for our coverage from Event #13: $5,000 Seven-Card Stud Hi-Low 8-or-Better, but there are still plenty of events to follow throughout the summer. See you then!

Matthew Ashton: {4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} / {7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{10-Spades} / {8-Spades}
Mike Matusow: {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts} / {9-Clubs}{3-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} / {k-Diamonds}

Hand #289: Matthew Ashton brought it in with the {7-Hearts} and then called when Mike Matusow completed with the {9-Clubs}. Matusow kept the pressure on with a bet on fourth street, Ashton raised and Matusow reraised. Ashton called off with a pair of deuces and was looking to overcome Matusow's pair of nines.

One by one the cards were given to each player, and neither improved until seventh. Matusow caught a king to improve to two pair, and while Ashton caught an eight to also improve to two pair, it wasn't enough to overcome "The Mouth's" kings and nines.

Hand #240: Mike Matusow brought it in with the {3-Diamonds} showing and raised when Mike Leah completed. Leah called off the remainder of his stack and the cards were tabled. Fourth gave Leah a big lead for the high, but running fours on fourth, fifth and sixth streets gave Matusow trips.

Leah seemed to know his days were numbers and was gathering his things even before seventh street was dealt. Matusow showed that he didn't improve, which meant Leah could stay alive with an ace on seventh. He wasted little time in grabbing the card and turning over the {J-Diamonds}, the last card he will see in Event #13 $5,000 Seven-Card Stud Hi-Low Eight-or-Better.

"The Mouth" proceeded to call bets on fourth and fifth streets before betting on sixth after Ashton checked. Ashton check-called that bet and one on seventh only to muck when Matusow tabled the {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for two pair and an eight-seven low.

Mike Leah: {a-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} / {6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{4-Clubs}{10-Hearts} / {10-Diamonds}

Hand #142: A raising war on third resulted in two-time bracelet winner David "Bakes" Baker being all in for his last 125,000. Baker was ahead with eights, but Leah was well on his way to a low. Baker held strong through sixth street, even making two pair, but Leah managed to pull a bigger two pair on seventh. Baker squeezed out his last card, but the {9-Hearts} he found was no help.

Baker shook hands with the final three players before making his way to the payout desk to collect $79,078 for his fourth-place finish.

Matthew Ashton: {a-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} / {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{10-Clubs} / {3-Clubs}

Hand #63: After Yuval Bronshtein completed with the {3-Spades} up and Mike Leah called, Matthew Ashton raised with the {4-Spades} showing. Bronshtein three-bet it, Leah and Ashton called and it was three-way action to fourth street.

Ashton managed to pair his four and he led out, which both his opponents called. When Ashton led out on fifth, Leah raised, Bronshtein got all in for 52,000 and Ashton called. Ashton then check-called a bet on sixth before leading out on seventh. A couple of more raises ensued and finally the hands were tabled.

Leah showed eights full of queens for the high, and Ashton a wheel for the low. With that, Bronshtein was sent to the rail in fifth place with his 22nd WSOP cash in tow while the other two players chopped up the pot.

Mike Leah: {5-Hearts}{4-Clubs} / {7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{a-Spades}{6-Spades} / {7-Spades}

Hands #61: A short-stacked Tony Cousineau completed with the {A-Diamonds} up and Mike Leah, who was showing the {7-Diamonds}, called. Cousineau led out on fourth and did the same on fifth after Leah called. Instead of calling on fifth, Leah raised it and then called when Cousineau three-bet all in.

Cousineau showed a pair of aces, which was good for the high at that point as Leah was sitting on a low. Unfortunately for Cousineau, sixth street gave Leah a straight to go with his low. Neither sixth nor seventh streets helped Cousineau, and he was eliminated in sixth place.

Not only that, Cousineau added to his streak of most WSOP cashes, now at 55, without a WSOP bracelet.

Gavin Smith: {4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} / {5-Spades}{3-Hearts}{7-Spades}{a-Spades} / {8-Spades}

Hand #16: Gavin Smith won't be winning his second World Series of Poker bracelet here today as he was just eliminated by Tony Cousineau.

It happened when Matthew Ashton brought it in with the {2-Clubs} and both Cousineau and Smith limped. Ashton and Cousineau checked fourth, and then only the latter called a bet from Smith. Fifth street saw Smith check, Cousineau bet and Smith check-raise. Cousineau came along and then called when Smith bet his last 27,000 on sixth.

Smith tabled a pair of threes with a seven-five low, but Cousineau's low was better with a six-four. Cousineau ended up pairing his eight on seventh to make a better high, while the eight Smith received provided him no help.

Smith shook hands with the entire table before exiting the stage in seventh place.

Mike Leah: {a-Spades}{8-Spades} / {7-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{7-Spades} / {J-Hearts}

Hand #4: Vladimir Shchemelev's stay at the final table was short but sweet. The Russian, who lives in St. Petersburg, has more than $1.4 million in WSOP winnings, and this marked his seventh WSOP final table*.

*In 2010, Shchemelev became the first-ever WSOP player to make three final tables in the $10,000 or higher buy-in level.

In Shchemelev's final hand, he completed with the {4-Spades} and both Tony Cousineau and Mike Leah made the call. Leah then led out on fifth, Shchemelev raised for his last 28,000 and Cousineau got out of the way. Leah made the call and the cards were tabled.

Leah ended up making a pair of sevens on sixth, and that's what he ended with on seventh. Unfortunately for Shchemelev, he didn't draw much better. He ended up needing some help on seventh, but the {5-Hearts} he received wasn't enough. Shchemelev missed his low and a winning high, and Leah was pushed the pot.

David "Bakes" Baker: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} / {3-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} / {2-Hearts}

Tuan Vo completed with the {7-Hearts} showing only to have Gavin Smith raise with the {8-Diamonds} up. David "Bakes" Baker called, as did Vo, and it was three-way action to fourth street.

Smith checked his paired eights, Baker bet and Vo called. Smith made the call as well and then checked for a second time on fifth. This time Baker checked behind and Vo took the initiative with a bet. Smith called, Baker woke up with a check-raise and Vo reraise all in. Smith got out of the way and Baker made the call.

Vo showed two pair, but it was behind Baker's set of aces. Unfortunately for Vo, both sixth and seventh street missed him and he was eliminated in ninth place for $21,190. An impressive showing for the man from Pleasantville, New Jersey, who finished 16th in this very event last year for $11,637.
