Mandavia Off to a Bad Start

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

We arrived at Ankush his table when he was already involved in a hand with Vanessa Selbst. We saw Selbst check-calling a 1,400 bet from the big blind on {6-Hearts}{K-Spades}{8-Hearts} | {J-Diamonds}. Mandavia, under-the-gun plus one, checked behind when the {K-Hearts} hit the river. Mandavia had some hopes of taking down the pot with his {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} but mucked those cards as soon as Selbst showed the {J-Spades}{3-Spades}.

The next hand Mandavia opened once again, this time from the under-the-gun position. He got two non-believers; both the cutoff and Selbst in the small blind made the call. Selbst checked to Mandavia on {A-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{3-Spades} and the online superstar decided to continuation-bet 1,600. The player in the cutoff made it 3,500 to go and Selbst folded immediately. Mandavia made the call however, leaving him behind with 15,625. Both players checked on the {3-Diamonds} turn after which the dealer put out the {J-Spades} as the river. Mandavia checked once again, and folded after his opponent bet out 4,000.
