Sung Sunk, Perez on the Ascent

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante

A big three-way confrontation over at Table 443 saw Steve Sung all in with {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{2-Diamonds} against the {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} of Jonathan Duhamel and the {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Spades} of [Removed:424].

The {4-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{9-Hearts} flop paired the kings of Sung and Duhamel, and the {5-Clubs} on the turn was a blank to all. Then came the river… the {Q-Diamonds}! Perez clapped his hands once excitedly to see he'd made a hand-winning straight, knocking out Sung in 29th and sending Duhamel back down to the bottom of the counts.

Meanwhile, Perez moves up near the top, although Jeff Madsen is starting to widen the gap between himself and the rest of the field.

Madsen Busts Two; Up Above a Half a Million

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante
Jeff Madsen
Jeff Madsen

After eliminating Eduardo Marra in a massive pot where Marra flopped top set and Madsen flopped a flush draw, making said flush on the river, Madsen recorded another knockout against Duke Miller.

It all started when William Black limped in from late position, Madsen called behind him, Jared Bleznick called Joshua Ladines called, and Miller raised to 30,000 out of the blinds. Only Madsen and Bleznick called.

The flop came down {j-Spades}{2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, Miller moved all in for his last 3,000, Madsen raised the pot, and Bleznick folded.

Miller: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts}
Madsen: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}

The {9-Hearts} turned, giving Madsen a flush draw and Miller a set of nines. Miller needed the board to pair on the river to survive, but the {6-Hearts} wasn't enough, and he was eliminated.

Madsen then picked up another hand against Jason DeWitt, and now sits with nearly 600,000 chips.

Aces Fail Randolph; 32 Remain

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante

Just back from the break, Mel Randolph had his short stack all in with {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Spades} to defend it, while his lone opponent, Douglas Corning, held {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{5-Clubs}.

The {K-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop produced an "ooohh" from the table, then the {K-Hearts} widened everyone's mouths to an "ahhhh" as Corning had made quads and Randolph was drawing dead. Randolph wished the table good luck and left to collect his 33rd-place prize.

Failla Grabs a Few

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Scott Clements limped from under the gun, then Will Failla raised pot to 18,000. Ali Lareybi called from a seat over, and when it folded back to Clements he decided to fold after asking and learning Failla had about 135,000 behind.

The flop came {5-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{K-Spades}. Failla fired a pot-sized bet of 46,000, and Lareybi tossed his cards away somewhat frustratedly. Failla showed Lareybi the two aces he held — including {A-Spades} — and Lareybi nodded as he recounted his depleted stack.

"I Know You're Bluffing"

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Will Failla raised to 10,000 from under the gun, Elie Payan called out of the small blind, and the dealer fanned {2-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. Payan led out for 12,000, Failla called, and the turn was the {8-Hearts}.

"Pot," Payan said, making it 48,000 to go.

Failla tanked for a bit, then called.

The {q-Clubs} completed the board, Payan reached for chips, and he double-fisted 52,500 forward into the pot. Failla tanked for the better part of three minutes before finally folding.

"The funny thing is I know you're bluffing," he said, sending his four cards spiraling into the muck.

Payan didn't say a word, rather he mucked his cards and pulled in the pot.
