Cajelais Doubles Huge Through Dandrea

Level 10 : 400/800, 100 ante

We caught up with the action on the flop to see a sizable pot built already between Erik Cajelais and Raymond Dandrea. The flop read {6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} and we found Cajelais all in for 44,450 total. Dandrea called and the hands were turned over.

Cajelais: {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}
Dandrea: {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}

Cajelais was way out in front with his flopped set of fours. The {7-Clubs} on the turn changed nothing on the turn and the {10-Diamonds} finished off the board. Cajelais was able to double up into a massive stack of about 112,000.

One For Ho

Level 10 : 400/800, 100 ante

The completed board read {7-Spades}{K-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{5-Spades}{3-Diamonds} when we found Maria Ho heads up with an opponent. Ho checked to her opponent and he fired out one final bet of 3,600. Ho went into the tank for a moment and then finally decided to toss out a call.

Her opponent was reluctant to table his hand at first but finally did so when a table mate urged him to. He showed {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for a busted-flush draw and queen-high. Ho rolled over {7-Hearts}{6-Spades} for a flopped pair of sevens and the best hand. She was awarded the pot and now sits around 29,500 in chips.

Beware the Russian Winter

Level 10 : 400/800, 100 ante
Ivan Demidov Forgot His Long Sleeve on the Way to the Brasilia Room
Ivan Demidov Forgot His Long Sleeve on the Way to the Brasilia Room

As a member of the original November Nine, Russian pro Ivan Demidov is no stranger to the WSOP stage, but on a recent occasion he resembled a rank amateur... at least to the naked eye.

We caught the action on the river, with a board of {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} lying between Demidov and Mike Degilio. The native of Moscow had the last of his stack neatly divided and pushed forward, for an all-in bet of about 24,000. Degilio was seated directly to Demidov's right, and he stared intensely for over three minutes, searching for a read on the impassive Russian.

That's when Demidov's arm began to shake, the motion imperceptible initially but gradually developing into a full fledged shiver. Degilio noticed the trembling and shot Demidov a curious look, no doubt wondering why a man who had once braved the Main Event final table would be so physically affected by this relatively minor moment.

"I didn't want to call," he said to Demidov. "But then you started shaking like that."

Demidov's face remained an inscrutable mask, and for those observing the scene thoughts of an epic Hollywood began to creep in, but Demidov's arm, and then his entire chest, began to shudder.

Finally, the opponent announced a call, and Demidov quickly rolled over his {K-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} for the second nut flush. The other player winced when he saw the bad news, and Demidov began dragging the large pot his way.

His tablemates asked Demidov why he was shaking throughout the hand, and he coolly provided his answer.

"The cold," he said quietly, "I know I'm shaking, but... just cold."

"You're Russian right?," quipped John Eames from across the table. "You're supposed to have cold blood."

Gimbel Doubles Opponent

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

We arrived just in time to see Harrison Gimbel put an opponent all in before the flop for just above 20,000. The hands were tabled to find the two racing for Gimbel's opponent's tournament life.

Gimbel: {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Opponent: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}

The board came down {Q-Spades}{K-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and Gimbel's pocket sevens were bested when his opponent flopped a king. Gimbel was forced to ship chips to the other side of the table and now sits on about 30,000.

Crane Doubles Through Pham

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante
Russell Crane
Russell Crane

Picking up with the action on a flop of {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}{4-Diamonds}, we found Russel Crane check over to David Pham on the button. Pham moved 2,500 into the middle and Crane came over the top with a check-raise to 6,600. Pham thought for a moment before moving Crane in and Crane quickly called for his tournament life.

Crane: {K-Spades}{J-Hearts}
Pham: {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}

Crane was way ahead with his trip jacks and managed a double up after the turn and river brought the {4-Spades} and {7-Diamonds} respectively. Crane now sits around 41,000 while Pham has fallen to around 46,500.

Nick Schwarmann Cannot be Contained

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante
Nick Schwarmann is Stacking Here on Day 1
Nick Schwarmann is Stacking Here on Day 1

Minutes after eliminating Jason Somerville to move above 100,000 chips on the day, Nick Schwarmann is quickly making his way towards a 200,000 stack.

We saw yet another player pushing their entire stack forward, and Schwarmann eagerly adding those towers to his impressive castle, and with a quick look at the cards it was apparent why.

Schwarmann had the {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} tabled in front of him, and the board read {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{8-Clubs}{q-Clubs}. Schwarmann had flopped an inside straight flush draw, and while he bricked the diamonds, the queen on the river gave him the nuts. His opponent got it in with just a jack, and Scwharmann felted him with the king-high straight.

On the very next deal, with Schwarmann still stacking his winnings, he opened for 1,200 from the button, with one player calling. On the {6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} flop, his opponent bet out for 5,100, and Schwarmann quickly called. Both players checked the turn ({9-Spades}) and river ({5-Clubs}), and the two showed down.

"Hope you don't have sevens," said Schwarmann, while tabling his {6-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for middle pair. The other player could only grin in acknowledgement, and his cards went into the muck.

With these two pots, Schwarmann pushed above the 150,000 mark, and he seems to be dragging pots on every other deal.

It's Getting Schwarmann Here

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

His stack getting shorter with every orbit, and those orbits occurring twice as fast with the four-handed format, Jason Somerville made his stand with {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}. He moved all in for his last 10,800 from the small blind, but Nick Schwarmann opted to make the affordable call with {K-Clubs}{2-Spades}.

Although Somerville was way ahead with his pocket pair against just one overcard, the flop of {k-Spades}{4-Hearts}{6-Spades} put him in a deep hole. The {j-Spades} on the turn was no help, and the {q-Spades} on the river sealed the deal for Somerville. He politely pushed his stack across the table to Schwarmann , before making his exit from the Brasilia Room.

Schwarmann, meanwhile, has eclipsed the 100,000 mark, and considering the relentless nature of the four-handed game, this massive stack gives him a decided advantage over short-stacked foes.
