Tiller and Deeb Report the News

Level 6 : 200/400, 0 ante

We came upon another confrontation between Shaun Deeb and Dee Tiller, with the pair having reached the turn along with a third player with the board showing {7-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}. Tiller bet 1,800, Deeb called, and the third player stepped aside.

The river then brought the {8-Diamonds} and a check from Tiller. Deeb fired 3,600, and after hemming and hawing a bit Tiller called.

Deeb tabled {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Tiller winced. "Is that number three?" he asked as he mucked his cards. "Is that cooler number three...? Jeeeeez."

Deeb just grinned and scooped the chips, then Tiller looked up to deliver a moral to the story being written down next to the table.

"The good news is, I got him betting a flush on a paired board," said Tiller. At that Deeb looked up and turned around.

"The better news is, I got him calling a flush on a paired board," said Deeb.

Koon Runs into Quads

Level 6 : 200/400, 0 ante

Three players committed 1,200 pre-flop, and watched as the dealer spread out {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. The player in the small blind and the one under the gun checked over to Jason Koon on the button, who made it 1,600 to go. The player in the small blind thought for over a minute, before moving all in for his last 7900 in chips. The big blind got out of the way, before Koon called.

Koon: {A-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{K-Clubs}
Opponent: {7-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{5-Spades}

Koon was in front with his made flush, and stayed there when the turn came the {2-Clubs}. However, the river fell the {9-Hearts} to give his opponent quads, and the pot.

Hachem Delivers an Ace

Joe Hachem
Joe Hachem

On a flop of {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}, Joe Hachem checked from the small blind, as did two others, before the player in the cut-off bet out 600. Only Hachem called as they both saw, then checked the {A-Clubs} on the turn. With the river producing the {2-Diamonds}, Hachem placed out a bet of 1,300, which was called moments later.

“I’m not lying,” said Hachem, tabling his {A-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} for quads. Hachem moves back up to 20,000 after that hand.

Schoenberg Sunk

Level 5 : 150/300, 0 ante

Travis Lutes raised to 600 from the cutoff, then Erica Schoenberg reraised the pot to 2,250 from the button, leaving herself just a few thousand behind. It folded back to Lutes who called, and when the flop came {5-Spades}{7-Hearts}{K-Clubs} the pair set chips out at nearly the same instance to put Schoenberg all in.

Schoenberg had {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{J-Spades}{10-Hearts} for kings while Lutes had flopped two pair with {7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts}. The turn was the {6-Spades} and river the {4-Diamonds}, improving Lutes to a straight and ending Schoenberg's Event #41 near the end of Level 5.

Some for Selbst

Level 5 : 150/300, 0 ante

Lee Markholt raised to 300 from middle position and got two callers, including Vanessa Selbst on the button. The flop came {10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, it checked to Selbst who bet 600, and both of her opponents called. The turn then brought the {7-Diamonds} and it again checked to Selbst who bet 1,800 this time, enough to win the pot.

Selbst is looking to win a third WSOP bracelet, her first having come in a pot-limit Omaha event in 2008.

Madsen Bluffed

Level 5 : 150/300, 0 ante

Jeff Madsen opened to 725 from under the gun and found four callers to the flop. All five checked the {4-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{J-Spades} flop, before the small blind led out for 2,500 as the {2-Diamonds} turned. Sebastian Bastian called from the big blind, and so did Madsen, and the three saw the {J-Diamonds} complete the board. The small blind thought for a moment, before he threw out a bet of 6,000. Bastian quickly looked down at his cards, but mucked, before Madsen took a little longer to decide. He eventually folded, relinquishing the pot to his opponent.

“Wow!” said Madsen’s opponent, tabling his {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{8-Spades}{5-Diamonds} for a bluff.

“I almost called,” said Madsen, not concerned about his decision.

“Ok, no more bluffing,” added Madsen’s opponent, as he raked in the pot.
