Hutter and Weber Lock Horns; Hutter Over A Milli'

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Barry Hutter
Barry Hutter

We missed the preflop action but according to another player at the table, Matt Weber opened with a raise and he was called by Barry Hutter. After a check call from Weber on the flop of {Q-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{Q-Clubs} we caught up to the action.

The turn came down the {A-Diamonds} and Weber checked again. Hutter reached for a stack of chips and put out a bet of 94,000. Weber thought about it briefly then called.

The river dropped the {7-Spades} and Weber checked again. Hutter grabbed two giant stacks of chips and put out a bet of 172,000.

"Wow," Weber said. After about 15 seconds he threw in the call, but he wasn't pleased to see Hutter's {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} for a flopped full house.

"Nice hand," Weber said mucking his cards. "Run better."

With that, a giant pot was shipped over to Barry Hutter which has put him over the 1,000,000 chip mark.

Kids in the Hall

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

A huge hand just developed between Thomas Hall and Remi Subair, and after long tank, Hall got his money in the middle holding a draw.

The action began when the flop fell {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Spades}, and Hall checked to Subair. This prompted Subair to fire out a bet of 21,000, and that's when the the theatrics started.

Hall asked for a count of Subair's remaining stack, and Subair instantly appeared nervous, stammering a bit as he counted his remaining stacks.

"About a hundred," Subair announced, miscounting his stacks by at least 60,000. "Somewhere around there?"

With Subair appearing utterly weak, Hall pushed out a raise to 59,500, and Subair soon moved all in over the top.

"Count please," said Hall, his displeasure evident. "I'm probably calling, but I need to know."

After the dealer informed Hall that he must pay 194,000 total to continue in the hand, he glumly announced the call while tabling {K-Clubs}{7-Clubs}.

Subair stood in response, his Hollywood having worked to perfection, and tabled {A-Hearts}{A-Spades} for top set. Before he could celebrate, however, the dealer burned and turned the {Q-Clubs}, and when the {K-Hearts} came on the river his well disguised trap had backfired in the worst way.

"Disgusting...," was all Subair could say, as his entire stack was moved across the table. Soon afterward, Hall claimed the rest of Jeff Bartlett's stack when his {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts} made two pair on the turn, and he now holds one of the largest stacks in the room.

Hutter With The Ace-High Call

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Barry Hutter
Barry Hutter

Action began with a raise from Matt Weber. He made it 12,000 and got three callers.

All four players checked all the way down until the board read {7-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. From there, the player in the big blind made a bet of 39,000. Weber folded. Barry Hutter next to act made the call.

There was one player left to act on the button. "I think I might have you both beat," he said before folding his hand.

The player in the big blind mucked, but Rutter was forced to show his {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} to take down the pot.

"I think you might've been good," Matt Salsberg prodded to the player on the button.

With that, Hutter is now well over 600,000 chips.

The Family Slay

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Earlier in the day we wrote a quick recap of a hand involving one Kelly Slay, but at that time the post mentioned Kelley Slay. Eventually it was discovered that both names were listed on the World Series of Poker's official report for Day 2, and although we admittedly suspected a misprint at first, a bit of investigation by our very own MrCleverFox has shown that both Kelly Slay and Kelley Slay played in this event.

In fact, Kelly Slay is the wife of Kelley Slay, and while he was eliminated earlier in the night, Kelley has stuck around to cheer Kelly on. Confused? Well, we were too.

It turns out both of the Slays managed to make the money here in Event #54, and this marks the first time that this pair of poker players have cashed in the same event. With Kelly still nursing a short stack late in Day 2, Kelley is hoping his better half secures the couple a berth in Day 3's race to the final table.

Weber Makes A Tough Call To Stop The Slipping

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Over the course of this level Matt Weber has been all over the chip counts. He lost a massive pot that put Barry Hutter in the chip lead and was down to as low as 300,000 at one point after being up to 615,000 just before. But Weber has made some traction and stopped the bleeding after making a tough call against another player.

Weber opened the pot to 12,000 from middle position and found one caller from the big blind. The flop came out {2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and the player in the big blind took initiative and led for 12,500. Weber called.

The turn was the {4-Spades} and both players checked. On the {4-Clubs} river, the player in the big blind decided to lead out again for 28,000. Weber took about 30 seconds to piece through the hand before tossing in the call.

"You're good," the player said, almost mucking his card, but then seeing that Weber wanted to see them, he tabled {8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}. Weber tabled his {K-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and was awarded the pot with just king high.

"Wow," Matt Salsberg said who was sitting just to the right of Weber.

"Sorry," Weber apologized to his opponent. "I just didn't want to hear you're good then you turn over ace-deuce with the ace of diamonds or something."

Either way, Weber has picked back up some much needed chips as he continues his journey to try to win a WSOP bracelet.

Aaron Mermelstein Survives the Seven Minute Tank

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

We just watched a hand that took nearly ten minutes to play out, and for the majority of that time Aaron Mermelstein was subjected to every poker player's most intense experience: awaiting an opponent's decision with his tournament life at stake.

The drama began when Mermelstein three-bet to 25,000 holding the button, after a player opened for 14,500 in the cutoff. The opponent flatted, and the dealer fanned a flop of {8-Hearts}{10-Spades}{9-Diamonds} across the felt.

The cutoff checked and Mermelstein quickly declared himself all in for his last 102,000, a bet which effectively forced the other player to commit the rest of his chips if he wished to call.

Facing a tough decision, the cutoff then proceeded to tank for upwards of seven minutes, talking himself through the hand in a protracted attempt to figure out where he stood.

"I'm not trying to fool you here," the player said to Mermelstein. "I really have a decision here."

With the clock counting down the minutes on a television screen directly behind him, Mermelstein stood tall under the pressure, staring straight ahead to thwart his opponent's attempt at reading his face.

Finally, after appearing ready to call and fold numerous times, the cutoff player tossed his cards away, but not before sliding the {10-Diamonds} to its match on the flop, showing the table that he did indeed have a difficult choice to make.

"If that's all you had, I wanted you to call," said Mermelstein, finally smiling after seven minutes of intense scrutiny.

Musumeci Makes Her Exit

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Amanda Musumeci
Amanda Musumeci

We didn't see Amanda Musumeci's bustout hand, but her seat is now empty and all her chips are gone. One player at the table was kind enough to inform us what happened to her.

Apparently, Musumeci moved all in with {A-}{10-} and was called by another player at the table who had {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}. The board ran out but gave no improvement to Musumeci and with that, she was eliminated from the tournament. The player said that Musumeci was sitting around 145,000 to start the hand, and now she has none.

Salsberg On The Ropes, Weber Prospering

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

We didn't see how it went down, but Matt Salsberg seems to have lost quite a bit of chips over the last few levels. At the same table a man with the same name seems to be coming up a good amount of chips.

That man is Matt Weber, a regular on the World Series of Poker circuit where he has locked up three WSOPC rings. Weber is now looking as if he has a realistic shot to add a WSOP bracelet to his resume with over 600,000 in front of him and the chip lead by far in this tournament.
