BackBreaker

Level 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

The field has reconvened after the last break of the evening, and despite the flashing lights of the Rio's security system turning the Brasilia Room into scene resembling a discotech, the players have returned their focus to the task at hand.

Marafioti Rivers the Nuts

Level 6 : 100/200, 25 ante

Matt Marafioti raised to 400 from his eat in middle position and only the small blind called. The small blind tapped the table and checked the {9-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{A-Spades} flop and Marafioti checked behind. The {4-Hearts} turn saw the small blind initially check and Marafioti bet 825. Almost immediately after Marafioti had bet, the small blind check-raised to 2,000. Marafioti called

The river was the {A-Diamonds} and the small blind gestured that he was all in. The dealer and Marafioti asked for verbal confirmation and as soon as the small blind was deemed to be all-in Marafioti snap-called.

"I call, I have the nuts," said Marafioti, "Look at these (he points to his {a-Clubs}{9-Spades}) these are the nuts."

The small blind held {3-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and had turned a wheel for those of you wondering what he had made his move with.

Jones Doesn't Fall for Ivey's Trap

Level 6 : 100/200, 25 ante

Phil Ivey opened the pot with a raise to 600 from early position and his only customer was the talented young British pro Rhys Jones who was seated in the second best seat in the house, the cutoff. Jones called and when the button and blinds folded the dealer put the {2-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop onto the felt.

Ivey checked the flop and Jones checked behind. Ivey also checked when the {8-Diamonds} came into play and then called when Jones set the price to play at 900. The {8-Hearts} river completed the board, Ivey checked and Jones checked behind.

Ivey turned over {8-Clubs}{7-Spades} for trip eights and Jones mucked.

"What was that?" asked Jones, "Is that because I busted one of your boys?" which implies Jones bust out David Peters who is no longer in his seat.

Duck Down

Level 6 : 100/200, 25 ante
Tim Duckworth (Seen Here Competing in an Earlier WSOP Event)
Tim Duckworth (Seen Here Competing in an Earlier WSOP Event)

After losing a critical hand to dangerous pro Bryn Kenney, our very own Tim Duckworth has been eliminated, and it was Kenney who did the deed.

We saw Duckworth with an "all-in" button in front of his stack, Kenney with a stack of calling chips slid forward, and a third player all in as well.

Showdown:

Duckworth: {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}
Kenney: {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}
Opponent: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

Duckworth found himself dominated by Kenney's queen kicker, leaving him in a bad spot as the dealer prepared to burn and turn. When the {k-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop arrived, Duckworth found a pair, but it was the wrong one and he was still well behind. The {9-Spades} on the turn offered distinct chip possibilities, but the {7-Spades} river was not one of them.

Some Counts from the Amazon Room

Level 6 : 100/200, 25 ante

We've been to look in the Amazon Room where we discovered there are still five or six tables from this tournament taking place. One of the players seated there is Mike Leah who explained he was down to 300 chips at one point but is no armed with 6,000 and looking much happier about his situation.

Ivey Lets it Go

Level 5 : 100/200, 0 ante

With the board reading {a-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}, Phil Ivey checked to an opponent who tossed out a bet of 1,800 in response.

Ivey stared his man down for a minute while pondering his options, but eventually he released his hand. The player who won the hand exhaled audibly as the pot was pushed his way, showing that for us mere mortals, the Ivey Stare can be a harrowing experience indeed.
