Valverde Catches a Gutshot

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Roberto Romanello opened to 8,500 from the hijack seats and found callers in the shape of Yueqi Wang in the cutoff, Alyssa Valverde in the small blind and Thomas Conway in the big blind.

The quartet saw the {7-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} flop come into view and Valverde led for 30,000. That bet folded out everyone except Wang who raised to 70,000. Valverde moved all in and was instantly called.

Valverde: {J-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Wang: {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}

The turn was the {8-Hearts}, which improved Valverde's hand to a straight and when the {4-Clubs} failed to pair the board, Valverde won a substantial pot and left Wang nursing a short stack.
