Trips for Bonomo

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

On a flop of {9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Spades}, Justin Bonomo bet 1,700 from the big blind position. His opponent called from the button, and the dealer turned the {a-Hearts}. Bonomo check-called a bet of 2,700, and the {9-Spades} completed the board on the river. Bonomo check-called again, this time for 4,800, and showed {9-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for trips. His opponent mucked, and Bonomo took the pot, bringing his stack up to 36,000.

Gal Erlichman Rides the Rockets to the Top of the Leaderboard

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante
Soi Nguyen Tried to Get a Little Too Slick With His Suited Big Slick
Soi Nguyen Tried to Get a Little Too Slick With His Suited Big Slick

We passed by the table where T.J. Cloutier and Mike Matusow are now sitting, and overheard Cloutier laughing a bit about a previous hand.

"He only played every hand for two hours...," said Cloutier in his famous Southern drawl. "Of course he gets 250 big blinds in before the flop and busts."

With Gal Erlichman quietly stacking a tower of orange T5000 tournament chips a few seats over, and adding them to an already expansive chip castle, it soon became apparent that Erlichman had stacked an unfortunate player, and the victim turned out to be 2010 November Niner Soi Nguyen.

According to Erlichman, the action started when a player opened for 500, and two others flatted the raise. Erlichman woke up with {A-}{a-}, and three-bet to 2,300.

This pressure folded the original raiser, but Nguyen four-bet to 9,300. When the action folded back to him, Erlichman jammed for the rest of his stack, and Nguyen called off with the {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}.

Despite finding a premium hand, Nguyen was utterly dominated by Erlichman's rockets, and when the flop brought the case ace to the board, Nguyen's Main Event came to an abrupt end.

Busquet Flushed with Chips

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

With the board reading {7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and roughly 2,500 in the middle Olivier Busquet bet out 1,500 following a check from his opponent.

Busquet's opponent took close to a minute before calling as the {K-Spades} rolled off on the river and he checked once again.

Very deliberately, Busquet took four yellow 1,000-denomination chips and dropped them just ahead of his cards to signify a bet of 4,000.

It would take nearly three minutes before Busquet's opponent came to a decision - one which was a call. Busquet tabled his {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} for a flush and scooped the pot to move to just under 55,000 in chips.

Barnhart Tries the Bluff; Fails

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Sam Barnhart and an opponent were heads up on a board of {5-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{k-Spades}{4-Diamonds}. The player checked, Barnhart tossed out 3,000, and the player tanked for quite some time before calling.

Barnhart, the inaugural National Championship winner showed {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for a bluff, which was no good against his opponent's {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs} for a pair of jacks.

Holloway Back Up to Starting Stack

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante
Chad Holloway
Chad Holloway

With the board reading {q-Spades}{k-Clubs}{8-Hearts} on the flop, the big blind checked, and the player to his left bet out 750. Holloway called, and the blind folded, bringing the {9-Clubs} on the turn. Action checked to Holloway, who bet 1,000, and drew a call. The {4-Hearts} completed the board on the river, and Holloway kept up his aggression, this time for 2,500. His opponent check-raised to 6,000, and Holloway called. His opponent showed {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} for a river bluff, and Holloway turned over {k-Spades}{9-Spades} for a winning two pair.

A few hands later, with {2-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{6-Spades} on the flop, Holloway called a bet of 500 from the player in the small blind position. Both players checked the {3-Diamonds} on the turn, and the small blind led out for 1,000 when the {3-Spades} fell on the river. Holloway called, and his opponent showed {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for ace-high. Holloway held {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for middle pair on the flop, and won the pot.

After the series of hands, Holloway is back up to 30,000, having rebuilt his stack from below 12,000 earlier in the day.

Break Time; Erlichman Sits at 120k, Tran, Bardah in the Mix

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante
Kenny Tran
Kenny Tran

The Day 1a Main Event field is now on their second 20-minute break for the day.

Once play started for level two, Tomas Macnamara launched up the leader board courtesy of a cooler that saw him flop the nut flush against the second nut flush. Ronnie Bardah would also join Macnamar up on top of the leaderboard after doubling on the feature table with kings against jacks on a nine-high board. Bardah's good start so far is just a stepping stone that may see him capture his fourth consecutive Main Event cash.

Matt Greenwood and Larry Wright would also see themselves sit high, but it would be Kenny Tran and his chip stack making the most noise after he hit a one-outer against Hans Winzeler. Winzeler held {Q-}{Q-} against Tran's {6-}{6-}, and when the money went in on a {Q-}{10-}{6-} flop Tran would spike the case six on the river to soar to 70,000 as Winzeler was left with roughly 9,000.

However it would Gal Erlichman heading to break as the chip leader after eliminating Soi Nguyen with {A-}{A-} against Nguyen's {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}. That chip lead amounted to roughly 118,000 and saw him sitting very comfortable as players were now able to enjoy a break full of bad beat stories, missed bets and close calls.

As the remaining players enjoy their 20 minutes away from the table, check out this video Sarah Grant recorded about all the highlights from week five.
