Heinzelmann Bets the Max

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

With a little over 20,000 already in the middle and the flop having come {J-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}, we arrived to see Yueqi Wang in early position contemplating calling after Max Heinzelmann had pushed all in for around 45,000. Wang thought for a while, but finally let her hand go and the chips were shoveled Heinzelmann's way.

Pillai Grabs a Small One; Needs More

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

A short-stacked Shankar Pillai took a flop of {j-Spades}{k-Clubs}{9-Hearts} with two opponents, Raymond Iskander and JC Tran. The action checked to Pillai, who fired out 2,200, and only Iskander called.

The turn was the {3-Spades}, both players checked, and the {q-Clubs} completed the board. Iskander check-called a bet of 3,000, then mucked when Pillai showed {k-Spades}{10-Spades} for a straight.

Pillai is still down from where he started the day, and is looking to chip up further,

Karim's Monster No Good

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Zo Karim, on the button, was facing a bet of 3,600 from the small blind on a board of {3-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}. Karim tossed 10,300 in the middle, and his opponent shipped all in. Karim called immediately.

Karim: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Opponent: {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}

Karim had trip queens with top kicker, but his opponent had turned a full house. The river was a {10-Hearts}, no help to Karim, and leaving him with about a 25 big blind stack.

Anderson Busts Wong

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

From the cutoff seat, Calvin Anderson raised to 1,600. Stephen Bokor flat-called on the button, then action folded to Danny Wong in the big blind. Wong, who finished 14th in last year's World Series of Poker Main Event for $465,159, moved all in for 17,100. Anderson immediately took his sunglasses off and put them down on the table next to his opening raise while he thought. He tanked for a bit, then called. Bokor folded.

Anderson showed the {A-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} and was ahead of Wong's {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}. On the flop, the {K-Spades}{9-Hearts}{6-Clubs} fell and Wong took the lead. The turn was the {10-Hearts}, leaving Anderson needing an ace or a seven to win the hand. The river completed the board with {7-Hearts} and Anderson had completed his straight. Wong was eliminated, while Anderson climbed to nearly 100,000 in chips.

Nate Silver
Nate Silver

With {4-Hearts}{2-Spades}{8-Clubs} on the board, Nate Silver bet 3,100, and his opponent called from the small blind position. Silver bet again when the {10-Diamonds} fell on the turn, this time for 5,600, and his opponent called again. The river was the {10-Clubs}, and Silver bet 10,000. After his opponent called, Silver turned over {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}, and his opponent mucked.

After pulling in the pot, the statistician and political blogger is up to 68,000.

Grafton Grabs One

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

We came on a big hand brewing between Sam Grafton and the player sitting to his left. They'd reached the river with the board showing {2-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and about 30,000 in the middle. Grafton's opponent had a stack of 25,500 sitting in front of him, and Grafton had a tall column of orange chips and the "ALL IN" black disc sitting in front of him, indicating either a bet-raise-shove situation or possibly a check, raise, and all-in reraise.

Grafton's opponent tanked for some time before folding, and now Grafton is up close to 170,000.

Piqué Sent Packing

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Gerard Pique
Gerard Pique

World famous soccer star Gerard Piqué was drawing plenty of attention all day, but he unfortunately busted a short while ago. We missed the bustout as it happened, but one of his table mates was kind enough to give us some details on the hand.

According to him, Piqué raised it up preflop, and the player next to him made it 4,000 to go. James Alexander called the three bet, and Piqué did as well. The three saw a flop of {9-}{8-}{x-} with two hearts, and Piqué open shoved all in for the remainder of his stack, about 12,000 total. The original three bettor folded, but Alexander made the call.

Alexander: {8-}{8-}
Piqué: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

Piqué was hoping his overcards were outs, but Alexander's set meant that Piqué could only grab a heart for the win. Well the hand was over when a {9-} came on the turn, giving Alexander a full house and ending Piqué's day before the dinner break.
