Lee Legged, Gold Surging

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Jamie Gold
Jamie Gold

"No more death watch!" sparked Jamie Gold to our PokerNews reporter.

With Richard Lee's seat vacant, we inquired to see whether or not Gold had eliminated Lee just as he did at the 2006 WSOP Main Event final table, when Gold's {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} held true against Lee's {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}.

"Nah I didn't, but that would have been sweet!" added Gold before he detailed Lee's elimination.

Lee pushed all in with {A-}{3-} and the player on Gold's immediate left called with {A-}{K-} and held.

Gold then explained that on the following hand, Gold found a double through that very opponent with {A-}{A-} against {J-}{J-} before winning another pot to see him surge to 66,000 in chips.

Ivey Scores A Knockout

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

There was about 10,500 in the middle when we arrived to see Phil Ivey in the middle of a three way pot. The flop read {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, and the big blind checked to Ivey, who bet out 6,000. A player in late position moved all in for 23,000, and while the big blind folded, Ivey made the call.

Ivey: {9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Opponent: {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}

Ivey held the lead, and the {7-Hearts} on the turn was an interesting card. This gave Ivey's opponent a set, but also gave Ivey a straight. He was looking to avoid the board pairing, and the {a-Clubs} on the river got the job done.

Ivey has been down all day, but after taking that pot, he is back in the six figure range with 129,000.

Pillai's Aces Cracked

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

We reporter earlier that Shankar Pillai was on a short stack, and he started to mount a comeback soon after. A few minutes ago he was in a great spot to double holding {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} against the {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} of Raymond Iskander. Unfortunately for the 2007 bracelet winner, there was a queen on the {q-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop, and neither the turn ({2-Spades}) or the river ({4-Hearts}) were any help.

Pillai hit the rail, while Iskander is back to 70,000 chips.

Affleck Takes a Hit

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Matt Affleck
Matt Affleck

A player raised to 2,000 and Matt Affleck raised to 6,200. The other player reraised all in and Affleck made the call, putting his opponent at risk.

Affleck: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

Affleck massaged his head, as if he had a headache, when he saw the ace on the {8-Spades}{a-Clubs}{j-Hearts} flop. The {10-Spades} turn came giving Affleck a few more outs, but nothing materialized as the {8-Clubs} came on the river.

Ercan Olgun Gets Paid Off

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Ercan Olgun
Ercan Olgun

Ercan Olgun was in a hand with one other player, and they both checked on the {j-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. The turn was the {q-Clubs}, and Olgun bet 2,700. His opponent called, bringing the {3-Spades} on the river. Olgun bet again, this time for 4,200. His opponent announced a call, and Olgun turned over {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}. His opponent rapped the table, and showed {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} before the dealer pushed Olgun the pot.

After the hand, Olgun is up to 225,000 in chips.

Deeb Loses a Chunk in Controversial Pot

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Freddy Deeb found himself in a controversial pot.
Freddy Deeb found himself in a controversial pot.

A player raised to 1,600 from early position, and Freddy Deeb three-bet to 5,100 from the cutoff. The button silently tossed two orange chips into the middle, and the original raiser folded. The dealer moved to give the button change, but the player said he was trying to raise. Controversy ensued, as the floor was called, and the supervisor seemed to be prepared to allow the raise. Deeb demanded another supervisor be called, as he was adamant that the big chip rule meant the player had only called. The second tournament supervisor ruled it was indeed only a call.

After the hubbub had subsided, the players took in a flop of {8-Hearts}{k-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, which they both checked. Deeb fired 10,000 on the {4-Spades} turn, and his opponent called. The river brought a {9-Hearts}, and Deeb bet 30,000. His opponent dropped his whole stack in the middle, a raise of just 6,100. Deeb called, and his opponent showed {9-Clubs}{9-Spades} for a rivered set. Deeb mucked his cards.

Braund Get's Jacked

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

The hand started with Christian Harder opening to 1,800 from middle position. The player on the button made the call, before Matthew Braund bumped it up to 4,000 from the blinds. Both opponents made the call, before the flop came down {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}.

Braund led out for 4,000 and was called twice, as the {j-Clubs} fell on the turn. Another bet of 7,000 from Braund was called by Harder, before the third player in the hand moved all in for 28,500. Braund called and Harder folded.

Braund: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Opponent: {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

Braund’s opponent hit a set on the turn, and held as the {4-Hearts} completed the board.

Quoth the Reinkemeier Never More

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Tobias Reinkemeier raised from under the gun, and two players called including Bobby Poe in the big blind. The flop fell {7-Spades}{5-Spades}{10-Spades}, Poe checked, and Reinkemeier fired out 2,700. Only Poe called.

The turn was the 5,100, Poe led out for 5,100, and Reinkemeier tank-called. Both players checked when the {j-Clubs} completed the board.

Poe showed {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for two pair, and Reinkemeier smiled before mucking.
