Hughes Hits the River to Take a Small Pot

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Ryan Hughes
Ryan Hughes

Ryan Hughes opened the action with a raise to 7,000 from the cutoff. He was called by the player on the button. Both blinds folded so the two went heads-up to the flop.

The flop came down {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} and both players checked to see the {10-Hearts} on the turn. Hughes fired out a bet of 13,000 and the player on the button called.

The river was the {5-Diamonds} and both players checked.

"King high," the player on the button announced.

Hughes reluctantly shook his head and turned up his {Q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} for a rivered pair of fives. His opponent turned up {K-}{Q-} which was no good and Hughes was able to take down the small pot.

Ivey Wins More From Mizrachi

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Igor Rabinovich opened to 7,500 from middle position. Phil Ivey called from the cutoff, Michael Mizrachi called from the big blind, and the flop fell {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. Action checked to Ivey who bet 15,000. Only Mizrachi called to see the {2-Hearts} turn, which both checked. The {3-Spades} river completed the board and both checked again.

Mizrachi showed {10-Spades}{9-Hearts} for a missed straight draw, while Ivey's {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs} took it down.

Galfond Doubles In Wild Coin Flip

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Phil Galfond
Phil Galfond

A player in middle position raised it up to 6,000, and Phil Galfond moved all in for his last 69,000 from the cutoff. As soon as the action got back to his opponent, he dropped in chips for the call, and Galfond was relieved to see he was in a coin flip situation.

Galfond: {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

It looked all but over for Galfond when the flop came down {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{9-Spades}, giving his opponent trip aces. Galfond was hoping for a two outer now, and the dealer flipped the hand around when the {6-Hearts} hit the turn. The whole table audibly reacted to that card, except for the two players involved in the hand. Galfond could still lost the hand if an ace,king, or nine came, but the river brought the {7-Clubs}.

Galfond, who lost a huge pot to Tommy Hang just before dinner, is now back up to 155,000.

Kenny Tran Eliminated

With two raises in front, Kenny Tran four-bet all in preflop for around 110,000. Action folded back to Byron Kaverman, the original raiser, and he re-shoved. The three-bettor folded, the hands were tabled:

Tran: {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}
Kaverman: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}

The dealer delayed the flop while the ESPN crew made it over to the table, and once the cameras were in place the board rolled out {Q-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. Kaverman chipped up to 315,000, and Tran made his way out of the Amazon Room.

Guagenti Loses One

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

From middle position, Nick Guagenti raised to 7,500. The player in the big blind called, and the two of them took a flop of {K-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Spades}. After the big blind checked, Guagenti bet 7,500. His opponent called.

The turn was the {6-Hearts}, and both players checked. They also checked when the {5-Spades} landed on the river.

Guagenti's opponent showed the {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} for top pair, and Guagenti mucked his hand.
