Obrestad Sends Frankenberger to the Door

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Andy Frankenberger
Andy Frankenberger

Camera crews were swarmed around Annette Obrestad's table once again as Andy Frankenberger had moved all in over the top of Obrestad's opening raise and she had called.

Obrestad: {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}
Frankenberger: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

The board ran out {6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{2-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{8-Clubs} which was clean for Obrestad and she was able to notch the knock out and send Frankenberger home from the tournament just before the last break of the night.

Forrest Standing Tall

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

With about 120,000 in the middle and the board showing {J-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}, Anthony Forsyth Forrest saw his opponent push out a bet of 30,500 and after thinking about 10 seconds Forrest called.

The river then brought the {7-Diamonds} and checks from both players. "Deuce" said Forrest's opponent without yet turning over his hand. Forrest then turned his over — {A-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for a pair of treys — and his opponent nodded and mucked.

Manami Hayamizu Setting Up for 2nd WSOP Cash

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

After a middle position player raised to 6,500, Manami Hayamizu three-bet to 16,000. The initial raiser called, and the flop came {6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}. Action checked to Hayamizu, who continued for 17,000. Her opponent thought about it for a few moments, then elected to fold. Hayamizu pulled in the pot thanks to her characteristic aggression, a habit which has kept her above the average chip count late into Day 3 of the Main Event.

Hayamizu hails from Japan, and has several impressive results on the Asian circuit. She's final tabled events at both the Macau Poker Cup and APPT Seoul. If she makes it past the money bubble of the Main Event, it will be her second WSOP cash. We'll keep an eye on Hayamizu as she tries to make a deep run and possibly the final table.

Swartz Takes Large Pot Off Hughes

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

We caught up with Ryan Hughes and Donald Swartz as they battled for a very large pot. The board read {3-Clubs}{5-Spades}{k-Hearts}{8-Spades}, and Hughes checked. Swartz bet 120,000, and Hughes made the call. The river brought an innocuous {2-Hearts}, and Hughes checked again. Swartz announced all in, and Hughes quickly tossed the dealer his cards.

Last Break of Day 3: Max Steinberg Eliminates Phil Ivey, Takes Chip Lead

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Max Steinberg
Max Steinberg

We've reached the final 20-minute break here on Day 3 of the 2013 WSOP Main Event. The board is showing that 792 players are still alive, and with only 648 players making the money, the bubble is rapidly approaching. We're expecting to reach the money early on Day 4.

After starting the day with just 39,000, Max Steinberg is the new leader with just under 1 million in chips after finishing on the better end of a nasty cooler against Phil Ivey on the ESPN Stage. On an {A-Spades}{10-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop, Ivey got his 416,000-chip stack in with bottom set, and Steinberg called with middle set. The board bricked out, and just like that Ivey was eliminated from the tournament.

Dick van Luijk was the leader at the dinner break, and despite taking a hit to his stack is still among the leaders. Joining him near the top of the leader board are Somar Al-Darwich, Matthew Huey, Umang Dattani, Nick Schwarmann, Vladimir Geshkenbein and Kyle Julius.

Former champion Erik Seidel managed to double up twice to stay alive, while another former winner, Carlos Mortensen lost a big pot to dip to 55,000.

Joining Ivey on the rail during the past level were Dan Cates, Erika Sands, Philipp Gruissem, Haralabos Voulgaris, Tom McEvoy, Shannon Shorr, Andy Frankenberger and Tony Gregg, who was also seated at the ESPN feature table with Ivey.

We're off to grab some chip counts. See you in 20!

783 Remain

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Players are back in their seats and the final two-hour level of the night is underway. The big board — which players are consulting more and more frequently as the day goes along — now says there are 783 players left. Again, the top 648 will make the money.

We've been noting today how the pace of eliminations for this year's Day 3 has been comparing to that of last year, as both years saw exactly 1,753 players survive the first two days of the Main Event. Last year the night ended with 720 players left to return for Day 4, whereas this year it appears there will surely be less than that making it to night's end.
