Obrestad Can't Be Stopped

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Annette Obrestad opened for 20,000 from under the gun. Vimy Ha called from middle position. Action folded to Javier Montano who was in the small blind. He reraised to a total of 120,000. Yevgeniy Timoshenko folded his big blind putting the action back on Obrestad. She put in a fourth bet to 220,000. Ha thought for about 30 seconds before folding his hand. Action was back to Montano who took a look at his chips, and at the chips he put in the pot before eventually deciding to release his hand. That pot pushed Obrestad to just shy of 1.2 million chips.

Tonnesen and Walthaus Get Tricky With Pairs

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Tzu Yen raised to 23,000 in early position, Martin Tonnesen called two spots to his left, Jorn Walthaus called on Tonnesen's direct left, and Nick Guagenti moved all in for 130,000 on the button. Yen quickly folded, Tonnesen re-shoved for 357,000, and Walthaus called having both players well-covered.

Tonnesen: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Walthaus: {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Guagenti: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

The {q-Clubs} was the window card, but it was followed by a meaningless {5-Spades} and {8-Diamonds}. Neither Guagenti or Walthaus improved as the turn and river came {3-Diamonds}, {6-Spades} respectively, and Tonnesen more than doubled to 870,000 chips. Walthaus fell to 845,000, and Guagenti hit the rail.

Depew Gets a Few

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

James Alexander raised from the cutoff seat and got a single caller in Donald Depew playing out of the big blind. The flop came {J-Spades}{K-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and both players checked. The turn was the {7-Hearts} and this time Depew led with a bet of 22,000, called by Alexander.

The river brought the {Q-Diamonds}, and Depew bet again, pushing out 40,000. Alexander paused just a beat, then folded, showing one of his cards — {K-Spades} — as he did. Depew then showed his hand — {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts} — and Alexander patted the felt in acknowledgement.

Diamonds are Beckstead's Best Friend

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Thomas Beckstead open-shoved for 178,000 in middle position, Tom Alner called near the button, and all of the other players folded.

Beckstead: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Alner: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

Beckstead was in trouble, until the dealer fanned {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}. Alner was nearly drawing dead, and the hand was officially over when the {6-Hearts} turned. A meaningless {6-Spades} completed the board, and Beckstead doubled to 420,000 chips. Alner dropped to 445,000.

Kyaw Bets Rajkumar Out

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Vivek Rajkumar and Seaver Kyaw were doing battle in a heads up pot when we walked up to the table. We saw that on a board of {8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} Rajkumar had fired out 35,000, and that Kyaw had raised it up to 100,000. This is when we walked up to the table, and Rajkumar thought for about a minute while we were there before he made the call The river was the {q-Spades}, and Rajkumar checked to Kyaw. He thought for just a few moments before he stacked a tower of orange T5,000 chips, and slid it into the middle, a bet of 150,000.

Rajkumar folded rather quickly, and Kyaw took down the pot to up his stack to more than 1.3 million, while Rajkumar fell to 465,000.

Steinberg "Embarrassed" By Dwindling Stack

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Going into the dinner break, Max Steinberg tweeted that he had only lost two hands all day. He was the chip leader at the time, but apparently Steinberg's stack has dwindled a bit since dinner. ESPN's Andrew Feldman was recently taking a picture of Steinberg at one of the feature tables, and Steinberg lightheartedly described his frustration.

"Don't take a picture now," he told Feldman. "This is embarrassing. You should have seen my stack earlier. I had another tier. Now it's gone."

"That's embarrassing?" Feldman resplied. "You should walk around the room. You've been stuck at the feature table too long."

True, Steinberg doesn't have the tower he once had, but he's still among the leaders and in great shape to make a run at his second WSOP bracelet."

Turner Toppled by Taylor

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Jon Turner
Jon Turner

Paul Taylor opened with a raise to 22,000 only to have Jon Turner three-bet shove the button for 132,000. Taylor considered his options for a few moments before making the call.

Turner: {A-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Taylor: {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}

The {5-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{8-Spades} flop gave Turner outs to a chop, but the {Q-Hearts} on the turn would end it as the {K-Clubs} completed the board on the river to send Turner to the rail and Taylor up over 900,000 in chips.

Tran Holds with Top Pair

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
JC Tran, shown here playing in a tournament earlier this summer.
JC Tran, shown here playing in a tournament earlier this summer.

Dennis Premmanee pushed all in for 232,000 on the turn with the board reading {9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{6-Spades}. JC Tran thought for a bit and made the call with Eddie Blumenthal behind him, who folded immediately.

Premmanee: {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Tran: {a-Clubs}{10-Spades}

Tran was ahead, but he was up against two overs, a flush draw and a gutshot. The river was an {8-Diamonds}, a brick for Premmanee's draw, and Tran, who had less than 10 big blinds at one point yesterday, now has a more than healthy stack.
