Flores Doubles Through Engel

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Ari Engel raised to 6,100 from the cutoff. The button called and the small blind folded. Cesar Flores moved all in for his final 23,500. Engel made the call and the button decided to fold.

Going to the flop, Engel was holding {9-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Flores {K-Hearts}{j-Spades}. The flop came {q-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{k-Spades} and Flores doubled up with trips.

The very next hand, Flores went all in from the small blind after a raise to 6,600 by Paul Wasicka in middle position. This time everyone, including Wasicka, folded.

Hegarty Doubles Through Hanks For a Huge Pot

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Brent Hanks
Brent Hanks

We happened upon the action with the board showing {q-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{3-Clubs} and Sean Hegarty, in the big blind, called the 18,000 bet of Brent Hanks from the cutoff.

Hegarty checked the turn {7-Diamonds} at which time Hanks moved all in for more. After a solid 4-minute tank, Hegarty made the call. Hegarty revealed {k-Spades}{q-Clubs} for top pair and the winning hand against the {5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} of Hanks.

Shelton Extends Chip Lead

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

After winning a huge pot minutes before to take over the chip lead, Michael Shelton opened another pot for 5,000 from middle position. Action folded around to well-respected pro Jason Koon in the small blind and he opted to three-bet to 16,000. Shelton made the call and then called when Koon bet 14,000 on the {2-Hearts}{3-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop.

The {5-Diamonds} turn inspired checks from both players, as did the {3-Clubs} river. "Ten high," Koon said before sheepishly showing the {10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}. Shelton then showed the {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for a missed flush draw and queen high, which was good enough to win the pot.

Abou Risk's Stack is Growing

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Nick Abou Risk opened to 3,600 from under the gun and found one caller, the player in the small blind. The small blind checked a flop {8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{q-Spades}. Abou Risk continued for 11,000 and his opponent called.

The small blind check raised to 25,700 on the {2-Hearts} turn and Abou Risk called. When the {3-Hearts} river fell, the small blind led for 30,500. After some thought and analysis, Abou Risk called the bet. The small blind said "good call" and Abou Risk showed {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for top pair.

Makhija Gains Ground

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

We caught up with Amit Makhija who had been out of the spotlight for a few levels but had a sudden surge in chips lately.

We saw him at the river on a {8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs} board with a pot of around 40,000. Amit showed {a-Spades}{8-Spades} for a set of eights, while his opponent showed {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} for an ace high.

Looks like it was the wrong time to bluff against Amit. His stack is currently around 105,000, just over the 90,000 average.
