Obrestad Eliminated by Hanks

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Annette Obrestad
Annette Obrestad

After being crippled a few hands earlier, Annette Obrestad moved all in from the cutoff with {a-Spades}{10-Clubs} and was immediately called by Brent Hanks on the button holding {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}.

The board came {j-Spades}{9-Spades}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} and Hanks eliminated Obrestad in 42nd place. With Obrestad's elimination, Sam Cohen has just earned the title of the last woman standing for this event.

Dioquino Runs Kings Into Brown's Aces

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

After Kevin Ho opened for 5,000 from middle position, Jess Dioquino three-bet to 22,000 from the hijack. When action reached Rodney Brown, who hails from Anaheim Hills, California, he moved all in for 35,500 from the small blind. Ho quickly got out of the way and Dioquino made the call.

Dioquino: {K-}{K-}
Brown: {A-}{A-}

The {4-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop gave Brown a set, and the {Q-Spades} turn guaranteed him the hand. To rub salt in the wound, the dealer put out the {K-Clubs} on the river.

"That's insulting," Dioquino said as he counted out chips to pay off Brown.

Hanks Doubles & Cripples Obrestad

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Annette Obrestad, perhaps best known for winning the inaugural 2007 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event at 18 years old (making her the youngest person to ever win a WSOP bracelet), was just crippled after doubling up Brent Hanks.

We're not sure of the exact action, but we do know she held the {K-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} on a board reading {2-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} while Hanks had the {K-Spades}{9-Spades}. It was a blind-versus-blind battle, and our guess is that the chips got in on the flop. Whatever the case, Hanks is now flush with chips while Obrestad is down to 14,000.

Crews Pushes Dioquino Off on the River

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Jess Dioquino and Leonard Crews each put in 20,000 preflop and then checked the {5-Spades}{9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} flop. After the dealer burned and turned the {6-Spades}, Dioquino bet 17,000 and Crews called as fast as can be. Dioquino slowed down with a check when the {K-Clubs} rolled off on the river, and Crews quickly bet 30,000.

Dioquino was none too pleased and let it be known that he didn't like the river. "Did you like the king?" he asked Crews, who shook his head in the affirmative. Dioquino thought for about a minute before releasing his hand.

"I had a king," Crews said without showing his hand.

Meanwhile, both Louie Saludes and He Huang have been eliminated from the tournament.

Some Notable Stacks

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

With 45 players left, here are some of the stacks from the remaining five tables:

Baldwin Keeps Ripping Through Stacks

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Eric Baldwin
Eric Baldwin

We caught up again with one of our chip leaders Eric Baldwin, who just took down a pot with {9-Spades}{10-Spades} when the board came {5-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. His opponent showed {A-}{k-}, allowing Baldwin scoop a 100,000 pot with a pair of nines.

As the tournament has progressed, Baldwin has shown a steady increase in his stack, taking out opponents left-and-right as he hangs around the top of the leader board.

Peters Eliminated

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

We came upon the action when David Peters moved all in with {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and was called by Jacob Beck holding {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}. The board fell {q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{k-Clubs} and Beck's pair was good enough to eliminate Peters.
