Mizrachi Sends Another to the Rail

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

After a player opened, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi three-bet and a third player moved all in for 15,000 or so. The original raiser folded and Mizrachi made the call.

Mizrachi: {j-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Opponent: {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

The {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} flop gave Mizrachi a gutshot straight draw, but his opponent picked up a flush draw. Mizrachi has been running well as of late, and this hand was no exception as the dealer burned and turned the {J-Spades}. The Grinder hit a pair to take the lead, and it held when the {3-Spades} blanked on the river.

"Of course he got there as always," Todd Terry ribbed from Seat 1.

Bucky Busted

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

We saw Shawn Buchanan walking out of the room, which led us to believe he had been eliminated. Sure enough, a check with his former table confirmed it.

From the story that was told, Buchanan opened with a min-raise and action folded to Chris DeMaci, who simply moved all in. Buchanan had approximately 11,000 total and tanked for a bit before calling it off with {a-}{j-}. Unfortunately for him DeMaci held {j-}{j-} and the fishhooks held.

A Lucky Double for Volpe

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

Paul Volpe is running well today. Just a few hours ago (literally) he won a WSOP gold bracelet by defeating Daniel Negreanu in heads-up play in Event #13: $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship, and then he jumped straight into this tournament where he is still hanging on.

In a recent hand, Volpe got his stack of 10,275 all in preflop and was in bad shape against hist opponent.

Volpe: {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

Like we said, Volpe is running good today and that was evidenced when the flop came down {6-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} to give him the lead with a pair of queens. The {9-Hearts} turn kept him firmly in the lead, and the {8-Diamonds} river gave him the pot.

Mizzi Hangs On

Level 10 : 400/800, 100 ante
Sorel Mizzi
Sorel Mizzi

After two players limped, a short-stacked Sorel Mizzi moved all in from the button for his last 7,500. The player in the small blind folded, and then the one in the big moved all in over the top for 17,000 or so. The two limpers folded and the cards were turned up.

Mizzi: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{7-Spades}

Mizzi was in good shape to double, but an ace in the window put things in doubt. Fortunately it was followed by a third nine for Mizzi when the flop came out {10-Spades}{9-Hearts}{a-Clubs}. The {3-Diamonds} turn locked up the hand for Mizzi, and after the {5-Clubs} was put out on the river, he was shipped the pot.

"I Prefer Vodka"

Level 10 : 400/800, 100 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

With 5,500 in the pot and a flop of {k-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, Phil Hellmuth checked and his sole opponent did the same.

"I don't have the guts to bluff you," Hellmuth's opponent admitted.

After the dealer burned and turned the {7-Clubs}, Hellmuth led out for 2,500 and his opponent folded.

"It's good to have the nuts at the end of the night," Hellmuth said with a smile.

"I prefer vodka," his opponent deadpanned, which brought a chuckle from the "Poker Brat."
