Event #15: $3,000 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold'em

Day 1 Started

Are You Ready for Some High-Flying Six-Handed Action?

Today the 2014 World Series of Poker will continue with two new bracelet events, the first of which is this Event #15: $3,000 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em. This marks the second six-handed no-limit hold'em event of the summer, the first of which was a $1,500 buy-in that attracted 1,587 players.

That tournament, which finished last night, saw Justin Bonomo get heads-up with Mike Sowers and over come a 4-to-1 chip deficit to capture the event’s $449,980 first-place prize and coveted gold bracelet. It also put Bonomo in the lead for the 2014 WSOP Player of the Year.

As for this event, last year's tournament drew 807 players and saw German Martin Finger earn his first WSOP bracelet and $506,764 in prize money after topping a final table that included Matt Stout, Matt Berkey, and David Pham.

Today's field is expected to draw plenty of notables including 2013 WSOP Main Event champ Ryan Riess, WSOP Circuit star Rex Clinkscales, and WSOP bracelet winner Jackie Glazier just to name a few. OF course the field will be much more saturated, and PokerNews will be providing you with live updates, chip counts, interviews, and videos straight from the floor.

The plan for the day is to play 10 one-hour levels. Cards will be in the air at noon local time, which is just over an hour from now. Join us then as we bring you all the early action from Event #15: $3,000 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold'em.

Shuffle Up and Deal!

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

Players are still filtering into the Brasilia and Pavilion Rooms, but the WSOP has made it a point to start on time and cards are in the air. This is a six-handed event, but right now it looks like most tables are playing either three- or four-handed.

Over at Table 15, Octo-Niner and WSOP bracelet winner Jeremy Ausmus is sitting all by his lonesome. At least two players are needed for a table to start dealing, so Ausmus is stuck in limbo until an opponent shows up.

The entire room will surely fill up as players continue to make their way to the Rio. For now, we'll head out into the field and compile of list of notables who've jumped into the action right at the get-go.

The First Elimination of Event #15: $3,000 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold'em

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

Well, that didn't take long. On the first hand of the day Chris Molica fell to Justin Gavri over at Table 86.

The two were playing heads-up as no one else had sat down at the table, and the two engaged in a preflop raising war that saw Molica get his stack of 9,000 all in holding {a-}{q-}. Unfortunately for him, Gavri had him dominated with {a-}{k-}. The board ran out clean and Molica polished off the $3,000 buy-in faster than anyone else in the tournament.

Great Start for Weinman

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

Daniel Weinman is known for being an open-face Chinese (OFC) aficionado, but every once in awhile he takes a break from the cash games to jump into a tournament. Case in point Event #15: $3,000 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold'em. Weinman is located in the far corner of the room, and he managed to double up straight out of the gate.

We missed the action as it unfolded, but we do know that Weinman and his opponent got it all in on a {j-Hearts}{6-Spades}{k-Hearts} flop. Weinman held {K-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for two pair, but his opponent was drawing live to a flush with {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. The {6-Hearts} turn completed the said flush, but fortunately for Weinman it paired his six to improve him to a winning full house.

The meaningless {A-Clubs} was put out on the river, and then Weinman was shipped the double.
