Thomas is Out

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Dan Smith
Dan Smith

A player from middle position opened to 12,000 and Dan Smith raised to 25,000 right behind. Travell Thomas pushed his last 52,500 forward and the original raiser got out of the way and Smith called.

Smith had {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} and needed help against the {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} of Thomas. The {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop was safe for Thomas, but the {j-Diamonds} turn crushed him and the {7-Hearts} river couldn't bail him out. "You can't beat god," Thomas exclaimed as he headed to the payout desk.

Wilkinson Doubles Through Hellmuth

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Adam Wilkinson opened for 15,000 and got one caller in Phil Hellmuth.

The flop was {9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. Wilkinson moved all in. Hellmuth said, “I think I flopped a set and turned over {7-Hearts}{7-Spades} to call. Wilkinson has {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}.

The turn {k-Clubs} and river {6-Clubs} changed the picture though as Wilkinson when runner runner for a flush.

Hellmuth was not best pleased. It was a double up for Wilkinson, an amateur from Birmingham in England.

Hellmuth Busts

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Tony Gargano got into a hand with Phil Hellmuth and they saw a heads up flop of {k-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{3-Spades}. Hellmuth checked and Gargano made it 15,000. Hellmuth then check-raised to 30,000. Gargano responded with a raise of his own for another 32,000 and Hellmuth put the chips in.

The turn card was the {8-Clubs}. Hellmuth checked and Gargano moved all in for 82,500.

Hellmuth counted it out and eventually made the call. Gargano turned over {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} and Hellmuth showed {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}. The river came the {4-Hearts} and Hellmuth was down to 30,000.

Hellmuth said he’d been waiting for Gargano to bluff it off for the last few levels.

On the next hand Hellmuth opened for most of his chips and got it in when big blind Adam Wilkinson raised. Hellmuth had {a-Clubs}{5-Spades} against the {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} of Wilkinson.

The cards ran out {9-Hearts}{2-Spades}{k-Spades}{j-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and Hellmuth was out the door muttering about what terrible players they all were.

Asked how he felt about busting Hellmuth, Wilkinson shrugged and said, “No difference to me.”

Motycka Falls Short

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Debbie Motycka
Debbie Motycka

Matt Lapossie just eliminated Debbie Motycka. She moved all in on the turn of a board showing {q-Spades}{9-Spades}{10-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and Lapossie made the call.

Motycka: {j-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

Lapossie: {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

The river was the {9-Diamonds} and although Motycka had done amazingly well to make the final three tables, the tournament was over for the home game amateur and one time chip leader, until next year.
