Valenti Takes One, Busts One

Level 14 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Ami Barer opened to 4,000 from under the gun, the player from the button called, as did Vincent Valenti from the big blind. The flop was {7-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and Valenti checked. Barer bet 6,600, the player on the button folded and Valenti made the call.

The turn was the {8-Diamonds} and Valenti check-raised to 30,000 after a bet of 14,400 from Barer and Barer made the fold.

The very next hand, Valenti called an all in bet from the small blind with {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}. His opponent tabled {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}, but the board ran out {8-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} and Valenti sent him to the rail.

Talking Thomas

Level 14 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Travell Thomas
Travell Thomas

Travell Thomas is the one of the big talkers left in the tournament and he is talking up a storm and gathering chips at the same time. He is delighted to have Phil Hellmuth at his table and no doubt have position on him.

Hellmuth opened to 4,500 and Thomas observed that last time it was 4,000 so this time he must have a hand. If it was 4,000 he would have re-popped it. Everyone folded to Hellmuth’s raise.

“Show the bluff.” Thomas taunted. “I’ll just show one.” replied Hellmuth showing the {a-Hearts}.

Smith Slickly Takes a Big One

Level 13 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

A player opened to 4,000 from the button and Dan Smith three-bet to 13,500 from the big blind. The flop came {k-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{4-Spades} and Smith continued for 9,000 with his opponent raising to 22,000. Smith made the call and both players checked after the {a-Diamonds} turn.

The river was the {k-Clubs} and Smith bet 16,000. His opponent thought for a moment and eventually made the call. Smith turned over {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} for the full house and his opponent mucked.

Smith On the Move, Joins Dube

Level 13 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Mark Dube
Mark Dube

Dan Smith has joined overnight chip leader Mark Dube’s table so two of the big stacks are in one place. They are both wearing glasses and have their hoodies up.

Just now Smith opened a pot from early position for 3,800 and Jonas Wexler raised from the button to 10,000, leaving 35,000 behind. Smith checked the numbers, did some mental calculation, and threw in the call.

The flop was {8-Spades}{5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}. Smith checked and Wexler moved all in. Smith looked frustrated and thought the now-changed puzzle over for close to a minute before releasing his hand.

“What could he have?” Smith asked aloud. “I had ace-queen.”

“I put him on ace-jack.” Smith’s neighbor helpfully informed him.
