Idema Shows Trips

Level 20

Stud Eight-or-Better

Brandon Cantu completed with {10-Diamonds} in the second-to-last spot, and Daniel Idema raised. The bring-in folded, and Cantu called. Idema kept betting when he caught the {k-Diamonds}, and Cantu called with {6-Hearts}.

"You just can't help yourself, can you?" Cantu asked. "Barrel away."

Cantu called bets on all remaining streets, though he agonized over the river.

Idema: {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}{4-Spades}/{a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
Cantu: {x-}{x-}/{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Clubs}

Idema took the pot with trip aces.

Morris Ships on Cantu

Level 19

Pot-Limit Omaha

In the last hand before the re-draw, Arthur Morris and Brandon Cantu took a flop of {Q-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{3-Clubs}. Morris led into the middle for 11,000 and Cantu came over the top with a raise to 51,000. Morris went into the tank for about two minutes while the other tables waited to receive their re-draw seats. Ultimately, Morris announced an all-in three-bet and Cantu instantly flung his cards into the muck. Morris scooped up the pot and now has 340,000 in chips heading to the final two tables.

Pot-Limit Omaha

On a flop of {5-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, Kevin Haney checked to Aaron Schaff, who bet 5,000 on the button. Haney potted it, and Schaff began thinking.

"Wow," he said. "I don't think I can fold this."

After a couple of minutes, he slid forward his whole stack of pink T5,000 chips, putting Haney all in for his last 20,000 or so. Haney called.

Haney: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}
Schaff: {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}

Schaff's bottom two was ahead but vulnerable.

"Ten," Haney called, but the {7-Clubs} and {8-Spades} were of no use.

Cantu Climbing Again

Level 19

Badeucey

After being down to the felt and fading a card for his tournament life a short time ago, Brandon Cantu is back among the leaders.

In a recent pot, Jen Harman was the predraw aggressor, and she bet into two opponents after Brandon Cantu checked after the first draw. Arthur Morris raised, and Cantu made it three bets. Harman and Morris called, and Morris took two after Cantu and Harman stood pat. Cantu fired again, and Harman called, while Morris dumped his hand. Harman called a final bet on the last round.

Cantu showed {8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} for an eight-six and an eight-perfect badugi. Harman mucked.

Schaff: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{3-Hearts}
Tull: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}

The board ran out {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{K-Spades}, keeping Schaff's aces in the lead. He scored the elimination, boosting his stack up to about 239,000 in chips.

Ho: {A-}{3-} / {8-}{k-}{9-}{4-} / {x-}
Cantu: {4-}{5-} / {7-}{2-}{A-}{J-} / {5-}

A short-stacked Maria Ho was all in by fourth street for her tournament life against Brandon Cantu. Without any sweat, Cantu made a seven on fifth street, leaving Ho drawing dead by the end of sixth. She collected $5,911 for her 15th place finish.

Cantu is now up to around 97,000 in chips.

Abbott Doubles Through Kassela

Level 19

Pot-Limit Omaha

The board read {6-Spades}{2-Spades}{3-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and Frank Kassela checked. Shane Abbott fired 15,000 and there were two folds back to Kassela. He took a moment before announcing a pot-sized raise, putting Abbott all in for his last 52,100. Abbott went into the tank for well over one minute before announcing a call.

Abbott: {A-Spades}{J-Spades}{10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}
Kassela: {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{7-Spades}

Both players held just a pair of tens going to the river and Abbott held the lead with the better ten. The {2-Hearts} finished off the board, guaranteed Abbot the double up. He now has 120,000 while Kassela has been left at just 35,000.
