High Drama

Level 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

On a table that includes Olivier Busquet and Matthew Waxman, we walked up to a completed board of {6-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and one player with 3,000 and an all-in button in front of him and another player with 7,500 in front of him.

The dealer was awaiting a fourth floor supervisor to come for a final ruling. As we were conveyed the information from a player at the table, apparently the original bettor had thought the raise on the river was only a call and declared that he only had a six...and later, "it doesn't matter I'm folding anyway." Upon checking his cards, he may have seen something different than he originally thought and, at that point, moved all in.

The opponent wanted his hand declared dead based on his verbal declaration. However, the final ruling was that the all in would stand and the opponent folded. "You have to show now," Waxman and Busquet urged. He did show and turned over {4-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for the straight. The opponent was incensed and accused the player of angle-shooting. About half the table was buying that he misread his hand, but there were a few players who didn't necessarily believe that his intentions were innocent.
