Varkonyi's Identical Bets

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Nick Schulman checked to a player in his left, who bet 7,500 on a flop of {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. Robert Varkonyi raised to 7,500 on the button, and only Schulman called.

The turn was the {8-Hearts}, Schulman checked, and Varkonyi tossed out an identical 7,500. Schulman mulled the decision over for a bit, then folded.

Roy Forced to Fold

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

On a board of {9-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and about 20,000 in the middle, Jonathan Roy bet 12,400. His opponent check-raised him to 30,500 and Roy called. The {a-Hearts} fell on the river and Roy was forced to fold when his opponent shoved all in.

Griffin Pays Off Opponent

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We got to the table with approximately 8,000 in the pot and four cards in the middle of the table: {J-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. The player in the small blind checked to Gavin Griffin who made a bet of 5,200. Griffin then found himself facing a check-raise to 12,100; he called. On the {J-Spades} river, Griffin's opponent led out for 12,000 and Griffin tossed out the chips and called. His opponent showed {9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for a ten-high straight.

Griffin tapped the table. "Nice hand," he told his opponent. Griffin, who told our reporter that this is the first tournament he's played this summer, has nearly five million in lifetime tournament cashes and is one of few players who has captured the elusive Triple Crown of Poker (WPT win, EPT win, WSOP bracelet). Despite the hit on this hand, he still has a well above-average stack with 175,000 in chips.

Bowker Sends Khait Packing

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

On a board of {9-}{a-}{8-}{8-}{j-}, Kyle Bowker had a stack of T5,000 chips pushed out in front of him, enough to put Anna Khait all in. She slid her stack in as well after thinking for a bit, and Bowker turned over {a-Clubs}{a-Spades} for aces full.

"Wow," Khait said. "I almost folded, too."

Khait revealed the cooler: {j-}{j-} for a lower full house.
