Clark Sends Koppel to the Rail

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Chuck Clark
Chuck Clark

Chuck Clark opened to1,700 from under-the-gun and called when Minnesota's Jared Koppel three-bet to 5,000 from the small blind. Koppel then checked the {4-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{a-Spades} flop, Clark bet 4,000 and Koppel called to see the {Q-Spades} turn. Koppel checked for a second time and then moved all in for roughly 70,000 after Clark bet 10,100. Clark called and the cards were turned up.

Clark: {j-Spades}{10-Spades}
Koppel: {a-}{q-}

Koppel had turned two pair, but it was no good as Clark had made a flush. Koppel needed either an ace or queen on the river to keep his Main Event hopes alive, but it was not meant to be as the {10-Clubs} blanked. Koppel made a beeline for the exit while Clark chipped up to 165,000.

Baker Triples, Palmer Not In Danger

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

David "ODB" Baker was down to his last few chips and got them all in with {10-}{10-} against Scott Palmer and another short stack that Palmer had covered. Palmer held {J-}{J-}, and the other short stack held {A-Clubs}{Q-}. The board would run out {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades}{6-Clubs} and Baker would triple up to 17,000 and Palmer would win the small side pot moving his stack up to a very healthy 265,000.

GOAT One, Maholla Two

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Danny "Maholla" Johnson
Danny "Maholla" Johnson

Phil Ivey raised to 2,000 in middle position, and the action folded to Danny Johnson in the big blind.

"How can I pass up an opportunity to play with the GOAT?" he said, tossing in a call.

The flop came {5-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{3-Spades}, Johnson checked, and Ivey bet 2,800. Johnson called. Both players checked on the turn ({3-Diamonds}), and the {k-Spades} completed the board.

"Jordan," Johnson announced, betting 2,300.

Ivey tossed in a call, and Johnson turned over {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}. Ivey mucked.

"Maholla," Johnson blurted, pulling in the pot. "GOAT one, Maholla two. I'm keeping count."

O D Beast

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

The player under the gun raised to 2,200, a player in late position three bet to 4,600, David "ODB"Baker four-bet shoved all in for around 19,000, the original raiser made the call putting Baker at risk, and the player in late position folded.

Baker: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}

Baker and his opponent both smiled as the dealer gathered the flop. The {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{4-Clubs} were laid out across the middle and immediately Baker's opponent asked for a count. The {k-Hearts} and {4-Diamonds} on the turn and river were needless and Baker scored another double.

Tuchman takes Ethans To School

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
The David Tuchman, Eric Ethans, Vanessa Rousso table has attracted a number of spectators
The David Tuchman, Eric Ethans, Vanessa Rousso table has attracted a number of spectators

It’s all gone a bit quiet at the David Tuchman, Eric Ethans, Vanessa Rousso table.

The reason may be a hand that went down a while ago were Ethan opened on Tuchman called. The flop was {A-}{9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and Tuchman called a bet from Ethans.

The turn brought the {q-Diamonds} and Tuchman raised a bet to 15,000 and Ethans made the call. The river was a {j-} and Ethans moved all in covering Tuchman who tanked for a few minutes before making the call with {a-Diamonds}{j-} and was good against the {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} of Ethans.

The Sun Sets on "WCGRider"

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Doug Polk
Doug Polk

We noticed that WSOP bracelet winner Doug "WCGRider" Polk was no longer in his seat, which led us to believe that he had been eliminated from the tournament. Sure enough, a quick check with Ola "no_Ola" Amundsgard confirmed that Polk had fallen.

As Amundsgard told it, Polk shoved from middle position for his last 15,000 or so holding {9-}{9-} and Yun Fan woke up with {a-}{k-} in the big blind. An ace on the flop was all it took to eliminate one of online poker's most fierce competitors, and while Polk is no doubt disappointed, he leaves the 2014 WSOP with a coveted gold bracelet.

Hansen Busted

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Gus Hansen's Day 2 was all downhill.
Gus Hansen's Day 2 was all downhill.

Gus Hansen began the day with a very solid stack of 90,000, but it seemed to be smaller every time we walked by and checked on it. Finally, he was no longer in his seat, so we asked the players at the table what happened. Apparently, Hansen got the last of it in with a straight draw on the flop against an opponent who held two pair, and Hansen failed to get there.
