Because He's Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey tossed out a bet of 14,000 on a flop of {10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}, Lazaro Hernandez called, and Fabian Scherle moved all in for 44,000. Ivey reshoved for effectively 130,000, and Hernandez paused.

"I guess I'm going home," Hernandez said, finally risking his six-figure stack.

Ivey: {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}
Hernandez: {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Scherle: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}

"Why did you say you're going home?" Ivey said incredulously, after seeing that Hernandez had the nuts.

"Because you're Phil Ivey!" Hernandez responded.

Hernandez added a flush draw when the turn was the {5-Hearts}, and just needed to fade a ten, nine, six, or five on the river to double through. The dealer rapped the felt, burned one final card, then delivered the river.

The {10-Clubs}.

Ivey boated up, making sixes full of tens and pushing his stack to nearly 400,000 chips, and Hernandez's premonition came true — he's going home.

Linglin Zeng Tops in Brasilia

Linglin Zeng

Linglin Zeng started the day with just a little more than 100,000 in chips. Seated at the same table as Adam Levy and Matt Matros, she's moved that up to 260,000 and from all appearances has the top stack in Brasilia. Jack Wu is also in great shape with 215,000.

Tuchman Table Talk

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

David Tuchman, Vanessa Rousso and Eric Ethans are at the same table in Brasilia and there is a lot of chatter there. Ethans is a confident, some would say brash, young man and has already predicted he will win the Main Event. He has been giving PokerNews end of day targets for himself and today it is 300,000. He was telling Rousso that he likes smart beautiful women but that, “No one is really an idiot.”

“I can introduce you to a lot of idiots.” Tuchman told him to laughter from the table.

Graff Takes from The Great Dane

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

With around 4,500 in the pot and a flop of {10-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}, Vinny Graff bet 3,600 from the small blind and Gus Hansen called from the big. When the {3-Diamonds} appeared on the turn, Graff kept the pressure on with a bet of 6,100 and Hansen stuck with him.

The {3-Clubs} river saw Graff bet again, this time 6,600, and Hansen thought for a solid minute before dropping in a call. Graff rolled over the {q-Hearts}{2-Spades} for queens and threes, and it was good as Hansen simply shook his head up and down before releasing his hand.

Negreanu Pays Off Shklover

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

In the cutoff, Daniel Negreanu bet approximately 4,000 after the turn made the board {8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{4-Spades}. Michael Shklover, who had checked from early position, raised it up to 12,700. Negreanu called, and Shklover's river barrel was 22,000 after the {j-Hearts} hit. Negreanu thought for a minute or two before calling, and Shklover declared a set of sixes, turning {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}.
