Tricky Business, Poker

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

The board read {k-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and with 50,000 in the pot a player bet 6,000 and Neil Farrell slid out a bet of 55,000. He then put his hoodie up to cover his face a rested his forehead on the table for good measure. This got a chuckle out of his opponent who still had a tricky decision to make. He decided to fold and Farrell came out of hiding to collect the pot.

After a bit of conversation beck and forth asking if Farrell really was chasing down that flush draw he responded that he had a straight draw too. Asked why he acted so nervous on the river Farrell replied, “I’m always nervous. Poker’s a tricky business, and it’s the main event.”

Moneymaker Can't Find a Fold

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Chris Moneymaker
Chris Moneymaker

We found Chris Moneymaker considering a bet of 48,500 from an opponent in the cutoff. Moneymaker had checked the final board of {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{2-Hearts}{5-Spades}{5-Diamonds} from early position.

"Quad fives?" he said. "Pocket deuces? You've either got quads...a set of jacks...a set of twos...a draw..."

Moneymaker's voice trailed off, and he opted to look his opponent up. His first instinct was on: {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. Moneymaker shook his head and mucked {q-Clubs} face up.

"Nice hand," he said with resignation.

Hougaard Hates Himself

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Jesper Hougaard
Jesper Hougaard

A player raised to 7,000 from the cutoff and two-time bracelet winner Jesper Hougaard three-bet to 18,500 from the big blind. The player in the cutoff called and the flop brought out {Q-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Spades}.

Hougaard bet 22,000 on the flop and his opponent made the call. The turn was the {7-Hearts} and the Dane slid out a bet of 50,000.

The player in the cutoff moved all in for 102,500 total and Hougaard went into the tank.

"When I bet the 50,000 I was sure I was going to call a shove," Hougaard sighed. "But now I'm not sure anymore."

A few minutes went by and eventually Hougaard painstakingly let go of his hand.

After a moment Hougaard looked up from the table and said, "That wasn't pretty," as he's left with just 126,000 chips.

Pierce Back to 200K; Moneymaker Joins Table

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Paul Pierce reached for chips, slowly flicking out a raise to 6,000 from under the gun, and the action folded to a player in the small blind. He called, Michael Binger surrendered his big blind, and the pair took a flop of {4-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}.

The player checked, Pierce continued for 15,000, and the player folded.

"You got it," he told the 10-time NBA All-Star.

While this hand was going down, 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Chris Moneymaker joined the table. He recently ran into quads, but he too has chipped back up above 200,000 chips.
