Bigger Field Then 2017

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Nikolai Yakovenko has just taken a seat in today's tournament, and in doing so it has taken the tournament entrants to 103 which is one more then last year.

With registration open until the beginning of Day 2 (approximately 2:00 p.m. on Friday June 8th), a few more numbers are expected to trickle into the field.

However the record number of 118 set in 2016 when the event was won by Jean Gaspard is probably out of question.

"Smart Man" is Horowitz

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Big O

Four players built a pot of 20,000 preflop and everyone checked to {3-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{8-Spades}{7-Diamonds}. Bryce Yockey fired 12,000 after two more checks and only Scott Horowitz, on the button, called. They saw a {7-Spades} pair the board and Yockey bet 28,000.

"Good card for you, huh?" Horowitz asked. "I don't want to be like everyone else so I guess, I'll just let you have it."

"Smart man," Yockey replied.

Friedman Climbing Late

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

Adam Friedman and Schuyler Thornton built a pot of about 55,000 and both were pat on the last draw. Thornton checked and Friedman bet 25,000. Thornton shook his head but quickly called, mucking to {8-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-}.

Anderson and Abdalla Chop Up Kassela

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Frank Kassela
Frank Kassela

Badeucey

Catching the action on the second draw, Frank Kassela was all in for his last 6,400 with Calvin Anderson and Jake Abdalla creating a side pot.

Abdalla and Kassela drew two, while Anderson drew one on the button.

Abdalla checked from the big blind, and Anderson bet. Abdalla called and drew one as Kassela drew one, and Anderson stood pat.

Abdalla checked, Anderson bet, and Abdalla called.

Abdalla: {8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs}
Anderson: {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades}
Kassela: {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs}{2-Hearts}

With Abdalla making a rough-eight, and Anderson making an eight-dugi, they split the side pot, and the main pot when Kassela's hand of a pair and a nine-dugi wasn't enough to keep him in the tournament.

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
David Benyamine
David Benyamine

Pot-Limit Omaha

David Benyamine opened from under the gun to 3,500 and Daniel Negreanu called on the button, as did Shawn Buchanan in the big blind.

The flop landed {2-Spades}{7-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and Buchanan checked to Benyamine who bet 7,000. Negreanu called and Buchanan folded, as the {A-Clubs} landed on the turn.

Benyamine bet out 20,000, and Negreanu immediately quipped, "I had two backdoor flush draws, but that one wasn't it!"

Negreanu folded, and Benyamine collected the pot.

Matusow Doubles Through Welsh

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

Big O

Mike Matusow was in the big blind against Kyle Welsh on the button and they saw a {q-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop. Matusow checked, faced a bet, and potted it. Welsh repotted and they got stacks in with Matusow at risk for 86,400. "The Mouth" was extremely excited to get his chips in and he soon revealed why.

Matusow: {a-Spades}{3-Spades}{7-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Welsh: {a-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{k-Spades}{3-Diamonds}

Matusow had top set and the nut low draw against a flush draw, top pair and the nut low draw. The {5-Diamonds} turn locked up the high half for Matusow and he asked for paint. Instead, it was the {a-Clubs}, but that still gave him a sweeper playing a seven-three for low.

No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw

From under the gun, Alexey Makarov opened to 4,700 before David Baker raised to 16,000 from the button.

The action folded back to Makarov, and he moved all in for roughly 120,000.

Baker went deep into the tank before folding his hand.
