Volpe Vanquished by Negreanu's Eight-Six

Level 7 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw

Catching the action on the draw with roughly 8,500 in the middle, Paul Volpe drew two from the cutoff, and Daniel Negreanu drew one on the button.

Volpe led out for 12,000 before Negreanu moved all in for 43,100.

Volpe went deep into the tank for several minutes before he eventually called all in for his last 41,800.

Negreanu fanned his {8-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-} and Volpe flashed his {9-}{7-}{6-}{4-}{2-} and made an exit from the tournament area.

Triple Figures

Level 7 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Scott Seiver has just taken a seat here in Event #12, and with his entrance, it means that the tournament is now up to 100 players.

Last year saw 102 players take to the felt, while the previous two years saw 118 in 2016 and 108 in 2015.

As a reminder, registration is open until the start of Day 2.

Wong Finished Off

Level 7 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw

Jerry Wong got his last 5,600 in there before the draw, and Todd Brunson isolated all in from the small blind and showed {8-}{7-}{6-}{5-}{3-}. Wong flicked in two and turned over {8-}{3-}{2-}. He looked at his first down card and immediately grabbed his stuff and wished everyone good luck. The dealer turned over both: {a-} and {6-}.

Yu Drawing Dead as Obst Doubles

Level 7 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
James Obst
James Obst

Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

From the button, Ben Yu raised to 2,500 before James Obst three-bet to 8,500 from the small blind.

Yu looked at Obst's chip stack and then pushed out 60,000. Obst called all in for 30,500 and drew two cards as Yu drew one.

On the second draw, both players drew one.

The final draw saw Obst stand pat, and Yu draw one.

Obst: {8-}{7-}{4-}{3-}{2-}
Yu: {8-}{7-}{5-}{2-}

Yu was drawing dead and caught the {K-} to double Obst back over starting stack.

O'Dell Trying New Things

Level 7 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw

Timothy Batow opened for the second straight hand in deuce and got a call from Frank Kassela on the button. Frankie O'Dell shoved all in for about 30,000 in the small blind and that got everyone to fold.

"I'm trying new things, guys," he said.

Brunson Doubles with Eight-Smooth

Level 7 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw

The action folded to Eli Elezra in the small blind, and he raised to 4,500. Todd Brunson bumped it up to 15,300 from the big blind, and Elezra immediately slid out a stack of pink 5,000-denomination chips to effectively put Brunson all in.

Brunson obliged for his 35,300 total, and Elezra immediately stood pat.

Brunson fanned his {8-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-} for an eight-smooth, and Elezra mucked his hand.

Volpe Gets There

Level 7 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

Shawn Buchanan bet with a T5,000 chip — the pot looked to be around 4,500 — and Paul Volpe made the call going into the last draw. Each player took a card and Buchanan checked. Volpe bet 10,000 and Buchanan splashed in a call.

"I got it," Volpe said, opening {7-}{6-}{5-}{3-}{2-}.
