It’s been ten years since Scotty Nguyen won his fifth bracelet after besting a field of 148 players in the 2008 $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship, beating Michael DeMichele heads-up for the title and $1,989,120 in prize money.

After his ace-ten beat the ace-three of his opponent, Nguyen remarked that “The $50K H.O.R.S.E. [winner] is the best all around player - #1 in the world. Nobody can walk up to me and say, Scotty, you're second, baby.”

Other players to make the final table in this event included Erick Lindgren, Lyle Berman, Berry Greenstein and Huck Seed, with Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu and Doyle Brunson also cashing.

"Bakes" Check-Raises the Pot

Brian Rast raised to 3,500 from under the gun, Robert Mizrachi called from the cutoff, Greg Mueller called from the small blind and David "Bakes" Baker called from the big blind.

The flop came down {Q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades} and action checked to Rast who continued for 8,500. Mizrachi called, Mueller folded, Baker check-raised the pot to 48,500, Rast folded and Mizrachi tanked for a while before he folded.

On sixth street, Gregorich checked again. Kruk bet and Gregorich called. On seventh, Gregorich check-called one final bet from Kruk.

"Flush," Kruk said after Gregorich called. He showed {J-Spades}{10-Spades}{5-Spades} and that would be enough to earn him the pot.

Bach Wins the Battle of the Tens

David Bach raised his button to 5,000 and Benny Glaser called in the small blind, as did Philip Sternheimer from the big blind.

Glaser and Bach drew two, as Sternheimer drew three and it checked round to Bach who bet 2,500. Glaser check-raised to 5,000, and Sternheimer folded as Bach called.

Glaser stood pat, Bach drew one, and Glaser bet. Bach called and drew one again, as Glaser stood pat and both players checked.

"Ten!" announced Glaser.

"Me to." responded Bach.

"Bad ten. You win. Ten-nine." continued Glaser.

Bach fanned his {10-}{8-}{5-}{4-}{2-} and scooped the pot from Glaser.

Picking up the action after the preflop round of better Jared Bleznick took two while John Monnette stood pat.

Bleznick checked then called one bet from Monnette.

On the second set of draws, Bleznick took two while Monnette stood pat again. Bleznick just checked-called once more then stood pat for the final draw. Monnette stood pat as well. Bleznick then checked a third time. Monnette put out a bet. Bleznick thought for a bit then check-raised making it two bets. Monnette thought a bit as well, then folded his hand.

"You could've gotten a lot more bro," Monnette said. Bleznick just raked in the pot, not saying anything.
