Axel Sends Leah Packing; Simonelli Also Gone

Mike Leah
Mike Leah

Mike Leah scored his first points for the 2018 WSOP Player of the Year race in the $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo event, but his attempt at a gold bracelet ended in 30th place.

There was three-way action between Leah, Jesse Simonelli and Denny Axel on a {9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{7-Spades} turn. Simonelli bet all in for 16,000, Leah called, Axel put a bet on top of it and Leah called the extra 20,000 as well.

On the {7-Hearts} river, Leah's final 8,000 went in as well.

Mike Leah: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{3-}
Jesse Simonelli: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Spades}
Denny Axel: {A-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}

Axel was the only player with a pair to claim the high half. Both Axel and Simonelli had the nut low, ousting Leah's ace-trey. Simonelli got three-quartered, was left behind with 46,000 and lost those chips shortly after to finish in 29th.
