Galfond Chops Twice to Survive

Level 26 : 30,000/60,000, 0 ante
Phil Galfond
Phil Galfond

Phil Galfond potted from middle position and got action from Ali Abduljabbar and small blind Michael McKenna. The flop came {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and Galfond piled for 215,000. Abduljabbar called and McKenna mucked {k-}{k-}.

Phil Galfond: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{5-Hearts}
Ali Abduljabbar: {a-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Spades}

The {3-Clubs} gave Abduljabbar two pair and the nut low but the {q-Spades} river made aces up for Galfond.

A few hands later, Marco Johnson raised to 120,000 early and was called by McKenna and Galfond, who was in the big blind. Galfond led for pot on {j-Spades}{6-Clubs}{9-Spades} and only McKenna continued. Galfond put the rest in on the {8-Clubs} turn.

"I have it," McKenna announced, snap-calling and showing {q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for the nuts.

Galfond had {k-Spades}{8-Spades}{3-Hearts}{4-Clubs} but he got the {a-Clubs} on the river to make a low and chop.

Chase Steely Eliminated in 8th Place ($50,086)

Level 26 : 30,000/60,000, 0 ante
Chase Steely
Chase Steely

Phil Galfond raised and Chase Steeley called. Galfond announced pot on a {9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop and Steely moved all in.

"That's not good," said Galfond, calling and tabling {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{7-Spades}{2-Spades}.

Steely showed {a-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}

The turn {3-Spades} gave Steely a set of threes, but Galfond a wheel. The river was the {k-Hearts} and Steely was eliminated. He takes home $50,086.

The remaining seven players are now going on a 60-minute dinner break.

Johnson Quarters Power

Level 27 : 40,000/80,000, 0 ante

Marco Johnson potted second to act and got called by Michael McKenna before Chad Power repotted on the button for about 1 million. Johnson stuck in his stack of 1.1 million and McKenna folded.

Marco Johnson: {a-Spades}{2-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Chad Power: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

Power asked for red cards but the {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop brought none and the {5-Spades} turn gave Johnson a six-high straight with the same low. The {10-Diamonds} river changed nothing and Johnson dragged three-quarters.

Lee Doubles Through Abduljabbar

Level 27 : 40,000/80,000, 0 ante

Chris Lee raised to 280,000 and Ali Abduljabbar moved all in. Lee called for his last 600,000.

Chris Lee: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{8-Hearts}{2-Clubs}
Ali Abduljabbar: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Hearts}

"Where do you guys keep getting these hands from?" asked Michael McKenna.

The board ran out {8-Clubs}{3-Spades}{8-Spades}{q-Clubs}{k-Hearts}, giving Lee a full house. There was no low and he scooped a double-up.

David "ODB" Baker Eliminated in 7th Place ($65,579)

David Baker potted under the gun and Phil Galfond repotted on his left. Baker said he was all in, for 570,000 or so, and Galfond called, showing {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{3-Diamonds}. Baker had {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}.

The board ran out {9-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, no help to Baker.

"The Phil Galfond special," someone said.

Apparently, Galfond has been dealt three aces three times in the past few hours.

Galfond into the Chip Lead

Level 27 : 40,000/80,000, 0 ante

Phil Galfond raised to 200,000. "Is that a million in orange?" Michael McKenna asked in the big blind. Galfond confirmed.

"That's pretty strong," he said before calling.

McKenna check-called a bet of 250,000 on the {2-Hearts}{6-Spades}{j-Spades} flop, and the turn was the {7-Spades}. McKenna check-folded to a bet of 700,000.

Power Doubles Through Johnson

Level 27 : 40,000/80,000, 0 ante

Marco Johnson called from middle position and Chad Power potted to 320,000 in the small blind. Johnson reraised to set Power in for 650,000 and he called with {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. Johnson had {a-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{2-Clubs}.

The board ran out {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}, so aces and queens for Power were good for a double.

Level 27 : 40,000/80,000, 0 ante

Michael McKenna limped in the small blind and Chris Lee raised to 240,000 in the big blind. McKenna called and potted the {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades} flop.

Lee had just 475,000 behind but he thought out his decision before folding as the blinds increased.
