109 Players Chasing Poker's Ultimate Prize in the 2018 WSOP Main Event

Joe Cada
Joe Cada

While the storm outside may be over, the action inside the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino will be nothing short of thunderous as Day 6 of the 2018 World Series of Poker Main Event commences at 11 a.m. Due to last night's impromptu ending, caused by the power outing, 109 players will return to play the 1 hour and 23 minutes left in Level 26 that got cut short.

For 108 of them, capturing poker's ultimate achievement along with the $8,800,000 first place prize would be a dream coming true. One remaining player already knows what's it like to live that dream, as 2009 champion Joe Cada (2,965,000) is still in the hunt to become the first multiple Main Event winner since the late Stu Ungar in 1997. On Day 5, Cada reminded everyone who he was and the 2009 champ be one to watch when cards go back in the air.

Cada has quite a hill to climb if he's to etch himself even more in poker's history. Chipleader Michael Dyer has distanced himself with 12,180,000 in chips, making him the only player to start over the 10M mark. Late on Day 5, Dyer was all in in a massive confrontation against Cliff Josephy. Dyer, holding ace-king, spiked a fortuitous ace on the river against Josephy's pocket kings to rocket himself up the leaderboard.

Following Dyer are three-time bracelet winner Brian Yoon (8,395,000), Jeff Trudeau (8,305,000), Hari Bercovici (7,650,000) and Belgian MTT specialist Bart Lybaert (7,530,000). There's still plenty of dangerous contenders left in the field, as the likes of Barry Hutter (5,695,000), Eric Froehlich (5,365,000), Ivan Luca (4,580,000), Shaun Deeb (2,610,000) and James Obst (1,730,000) will also take a seat of Day 6.

Another story brewing is the back-to-back deep run of Frenchmen Benjamin Pollak (5,715,000). Last year, Pollak finished in 3rd place, and with an already heavily padded stack the Frenchman is looking to become the first back-to-back final tablist since Mark Newhouse, something Michael Ruane just missed out on last year. Kelly Minkin is the sole remaining female left in the field and with 1,205,000 in chips, "The Illest" will have to spin it up from one of the shortest stacks in the room.

Minkin Secures Early Double

Level 26 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante
Kelly Minkin
Kelly Minkin

Ricardo Souza raised to 125,000 on the button and Kelly Minkin three-bet to 385,000 from the small blind. The big blind folded and Souza four-bet all in putting Minkin to the test.

Minkin called for her tournament life pushing her 1,445,000 into the middle.

Ricardo Souza: {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}
Kelly Minkin: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Minkin would have to flip well to stay alive and she did with the board running out {5-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} as she flashed her rail an 'OK' sign, before going over to tell them the good news.

Antoine Labat

Ryan Rivers opened to 125,000 from the hijack, Steven Adams reraised all in from the button for 1,230,000 and Antoine Labat four-bet shoved from the big blind for 2,730,000.

Rivers called instantly and tabled {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}, leading Labat's {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} and Adams' {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}.

The board came down {K-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{J-Spades}{3-Hearts}, giving Labat a set of kings to eliminate Adams and double through RIvers.

Ace-King Into Aces Again Eliminates Chris Da-Silva

Level 26 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante
Chris Da-Silva
Chris Da-Silva

For the second time today Chris Da-Silva saw himself in an unfortunate spot and got ace-king up against pocket aces. However this time he was unable to come out the other side with chips.

The dealer informed us that Da-Silva raised to 135k from under the gun, and Peter Campo three-bet to 350k from the hijack. Kao Saechao was on the button and cold called before Da-Silva moved all in. Campo, who had both players covered, called and Saechao was unsure of his decision. Talking out loud he was unsure of what to do and ultimately open folded {a-}{k-}. Da-Silva winced when he saw the hand and also tabled {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}, and saw Campo reveal {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}.

The flop came down {5-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{4-Spades}, and Da-Silva stood up from the table and saw his fate sealed on the {j-Clubs} turn to exit just before the first break of the day.

The U.K.'s Da-Silva takes away $66,330 for his efforts.

Qutami Eliminated by Shorr

Level 27 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Danny Qutami
Danny Qutami

Hari Bercovici opened with a raise to 200,000 from middle position and Shannon Shorr three-bet from the cutoff to 535,000. Action folded to the small blind where Danny Qutami moved all in for 330,000 (he quadrupled up on the first hand in unknown fashion). Bercovici called Shorr's bet creating a heads-up side pot.

The flop was {Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and Bercovici checked to Shorr who bet 580,000. Bercovici quickly folded so Shorr and Qutami showed their hands.

Shannon Shorr: {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}
Danny Qutami: {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

The board completed with the {3-Hearts} and the {2-Spades} and that would be it for Qutami who's top pair was inferior to Shorr's over pair, sending him to the rail.

Gross Missteps; Fox Soars to Huge Lead

Level 27 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Alexander Gross
Alexander Gross

In one big hand, Jorden Fox has claimed the chip lead in the 2018 WSOP Main Event. The board was already completed with {3-Spades}{9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and Fox bet 800,000. Gross raised all in for around 3,800,000 and Fox snap-called it off.

Knowing he was beat, Gross flung {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} open in the muck for a pair and a straight blocker. Fox showed the absolute nuts with {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and racked up the nearly ten million chip pot.

"Nut-nut," Fox cheered in celebration.

"Of course he has the jack-ten," Gross muttered, whose Main Event came to an end just like that. He finished in 87nd place and received $77,695.

Trudeau Makes A Monster Call to Bust Levinksas

Level 27 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Laurynas Levinskas
Laurynas Levinskas

Jeff Trudeau raised from early position and Laurynas Levinskas called on the button.

The flop came {5-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Trudeau checked to Levinskas who bet roughly the size pot of the pot. Trudeau called to see the {K-Spades} turn and checked to Levinskas, who bet 930,000. Trudeau took almost two minutes before sliding in a call.

The river was the {Q-Hearts} and Trudeau checked. Levinskas thought around twenty seconds before shoving all in for 3,300,000. This time, Trudeau needed just a minute before deciding on a call.

Laurynas Levinskas: {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Jeff Trudeau: {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}

As if Trudeau had gazed directly through Levinskas' soul, he had called the shove holding nothing but ace-jack high. Levinskas, with eight-high, had to make his way to the exit in 79th place ($91,610).

With the huge call, Trudeau soared to 10,900,000 and the second place behind Fox.

Cada Shoves On Drokin

Level 28 : 50,000/100,000, 15,000 ante
Joe Cada
Joe Cada

On the button, Joe Cada opened with a raise to 220,000. Volodymyr Drokin called in the big blind.

The flop came down {J-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and Drokin checked to Cada who put out a bet of 250,000. Drokin called.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and Drokin decided to lead out, making it 340,000. Cada raised, making it 1,180,000. Drokin thought for quite some time, then called.

The river was the {10-Hearts} and Drokin checked. Cada moved all in for about 2,870,000 effective, what was left of Drokin's stack. Drokin tanked for over five minutes but eventually he settled on a fold. Cada raked in the pot to move over seven million chips with no showdown.
