Esposito Can't Get There

Level 22 : 100,000/200,000, 0 ante

Pot-Limit Omaha

John Esposito raised to 100,000 from the cutoff, and Josh Arieh three-bet to 225,000 on the button. Bryce Yockey called in the big blind, and Esposito made the call as well.

Action checked through the {8-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} flop, and the {3-Hearts} fell on the turn. Action checked to Arieh, who bet 375,000. Yockey quickly folded, and Esposito called.

The {3-Diamonds} fell on the river, and Esposito checked. Arieh eventually checked behind, and after Esposito showed his {a-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{6-Spades} for a myriad of busted draws and a pair of nines, Arieh showed his {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for trip threes and the winner.

Dan Cates Eliminated in 6th Place ($168,305)

Level 22 : 100,000/200,000, 0 ante
Dan Cates
Dan Cates

Pot-Limit Omaha

John Esposito raised to 130,000 from the hijack, Josh Arieh called in the cutoff, and Dan Cates came along in the big blind.

On the {7-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{6-Hearts} flop, Cates potted it for 415,000, and Esposito folded. Arieh raised the pot, and Cates called off his last 1.33 million.

Dan Cates: {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades}
Josh Arieh: {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds}

Both players had flopped flush and straight draws, but Cates had the lead at the time with his pair of sevens, although Arieh was actually a 60/40 favorite to eliminate Cates. The {2-Clubs} turn gave Arieh the nut flush and ended Cates' run before the {7-Spades} could fall on the river.

Josh Arieh
Josh Arieh

A former law firm courier, Day 4 chip leader Arieh comes to the final table with two WSOP gold bracelets to his credit and 6,220,000 in chip to work with, more than quarter of the remaining chips in play. In 1999, he shipped the $3,000 Limit Hold'em event for $202,800, while in 2005, he added a $2,000 Pot-Limit Omaha bracelet and $381,600 to his $4,840,393 in lifetime WSOP earnings.

He may be best known for his third-place performance in the 2004 WSOP Main Event, taking home $2.5 million after finishing just behind champ Greg Raymer and runner-up David Williams.

So far during this year's WSOP, Arieh's notched two cashes, including a tenth-place performance in Event #10: $1,500 Dealer's Choice for $10,101, which gives Arieh some recent experience in playing many of the games offered in the Poker Players Championship. Arieh also boasts top ten finishes in WSOP $10,000 PLO and PLO8 events, as well as $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw and Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo events, making Arieh a dangerous, well-versed foe going into the final day of play.
