Set of Eights Sends Crespin Close to Chip Lead

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

With already 75,000 in the middle, Hernan Crespin was first to act in a heads-up pot and put in a bet of 30,000 on a board reading {8-Hearts}{q-Spades}{k-Spades}{3-Clubs}. He was then forced to make a decision for his tournament life when his opponent went all in, covering the 120,000 stack of Crespin.

Crespin made the call and found out the good news when he saw his opponent was drawing dead.

Crespin: {8-}{8-}
Opponent: {a-}{k-}

The meaningless {9-Clubs} came on the river and Crespin collected the over 300,000 chip pot to put him near the chip lead.

Powers Has Lower Pair

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Jake Powers was in the cutoff, acting first on a {k-Clubs}{9-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades} turn. Powers placed in the minimum, betting 1,000 into the pot of around 15,000. His left-hand opponent raised to 12,000 and Powers quickly called.

Powers checked in the dark and the other player tapped the felt when the {9-Diamonds} appeared on the river. Powers rolled over {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} but he finished second to {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}.

Mizrachi Can't Get Traction

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Following three limps, Michael Mizrachi paused in the big blind.

"It's a re-entry, right? I'm gonna raise it," he said and threw in 6,000.

The first limper moved all in for 19,700 and the action returned to Mizrachi who called, learning that his {a-Clubs}{q-Spades} was flipping with {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}.

The dealer spread out {3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{3-Spades} and Mizrachi had to concede about a half of his stack.

"It's my third bullet... in less than an hour," he said and the table laughed.

Platt Wins a Flip

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

[Removed:139] was in the small blind, calling a 9,400-shove from a player on the button.

It was a fair race with Platt showing {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts} while his opponent turned up {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}. The board ran out {q-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and Platt's pocket pair prevailed.
