Burger Fills Up With a Flush

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

A pot of 18,000 had already built up between Christian Burger and Shimon Nahmani, and the complete {5-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} board was already out on the felt. Nahmani bet 3,600 from the small blind once the river fell, and Burger quickly called, tabling {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts} as he did.

Nahmani went to muck, but a player at the table requested to see Nahmani's cards. After some confusion, the dealer tabled Nahmani's {a-Hearts}{q-Spades} before pushing the pot to Burger.

Two Former Main Event Champions Take a Seat

Ryan Riess
Ryan Riess

Two former Main Event champions have arrived in the Brasilia Room for Day 1b of the Main Event.

Ryan Riess captured the Main Event title in 2013 and pocketed himself over $8.3 million dollars and he's now in action in this year's Main Event after a mid-WSOP break spent with family has recharged his batteries.

The year before Riess' win in 2012, Greg Merson was the victor and earned slightly more with $8.5 million. Both players are in the action early on Day 1b and will be looking to run up a stack. With Joe Cada coming so close to a second crown last year, these two know that anything is possible.

Ahmed Wins At Showdown Without Showing

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Owais Ahmed opened to 500 from under the gun and received calls from the players on the button and in the big blind. The flop came {8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} and the big blind checked. Ahmed made a continuation-bet of 1,200 and the player on the button called. The big blind folded and the two went heads up to the turn card, which was the {a-Clubs}. Ahmed continued again for 2,500 and the player on the button called.

The river came {a-Spades} and Ahmed checked. The player on the button fired 5,400 into the pot and Ahmed went into the tank for over two minutes before eventually calling. As soon as he called, his opponent shot his cards from the three seat straight into the muck. Ahmed followed suit as the pot was shipped his way.

Weller Flops a Boat

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

The {j-Spades}{a-Clubs}{j-Hearts} flop was out and Charles Weller check-raised over Stephen Rakower's 800 bet, making it 2,100. Rakower called and the turn came the {8-Spades}. Weller barreled 3,000, which Rakower quickly called. The river was the {2-Spades} and Weller bet again, this time for 6,000. It was another quick call for Rakower who mucked upon seeing Weller had flopped the full house with {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}.

Leng Takes from Hui

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Joshua Sommers limped in from middle position, and Phillip Hui raised from the cutoff to 800. Todd Hansen called on the button, as did Ryan Leng from the big blind.

The flop landed {2-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{6-Clubs}, and action checked to Hui who continued for 1,200. Hansen called, and Leng popped it up to 7,300.

Sommers folded, but Hui called as Hansen mucked.

The turn fell the {4-Hearts} and Leng bet 16,000. Hui deliberated for about a minute and then folded.

Wien Runs Into Rockets

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

The $2,620 No-Limit Hold'em Marathon runner-up Jared Koppel from earlier in the 2019 WSOP checked a {k-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{7-Spades}{7-Hearts} board from middle position, and last year's $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em bracelet winner Jeremy Wien bet 8,100 into a pot around 12,000 from the button. Koppel called.

Both players checked the {7-Clubs} river, and Koppel showed {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}. Wien mucked.

"You like those aces, eh?" Mario Mazzattini told Koppel.

Vitch Makes Queens Full

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Action was on Chris Vitch who was under the gun in a heads up pot against a player in the big blind. There was around 10,000 in the pot on a board reading {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{j-Clubs} and Vitch's opponent had just checked to him.

After stoically pondering for a few moments, Vitch put out a bet of 5,500. His opponent took less than 10 seconds to call and both players tabled their hands simultaneously.

The big blind turned over {k-Diamonds}{10-Spades} for a king-high straight and Vitch tabled {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} for a full house, queens full of jacks, good to take down the pot, bringing his stack over 80,000 early into Day 1b.
