Welcome to Event #74: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha

Omaha poker
Omaha poker

It's time for more four-card goodness on GGPoker as Event #74: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha has arrived.

Today's event begins with stacks of 25,000 and blinds of 100/200. Levels will last 15 minutes throughout the tournament, progressing until someone ends up with all of the chips as this is a one-day event. Up to two reentries are allowed and breaks will be given at five 'til the hour, every hour. Late registration and reentry lasts for 3 1/2 hours.

Games will be six-handed until the final table is reached, at which point the final nine will play with their real names displayed.

Omaha events thus far on GGPoker have produced some notable champions. Juha Helppi ($5K PLO), Eoghan O'Dea ($400 PLO), Bradley Ruben ($1,500 PLO) and Toby Joyce ($800 PLO) are among those to secure bracelets. Meanwhile, German pro Ismael Bojang won this event last year when it was played live in Las Vegas.

A number of notables have already registered for this one, including GGPoker's own Daniel Negreanu, Pete Chen, Dario Alioto, Benny Glaser, Manig Loeser, George Wolff and Max "MaxBlakbeard" Pescatori. The prize pool is inching toward $100K at the time of writing but will surely far surpass that total as the entries roll in.

The first hands are scheduled to be dealt at 2 p.m. EDT, so come right back to PokerNews then to track the latest GGPoker bracelet event.

Charania on Fire

Level 2 : 150/300, 0 ante
Mohsin Charania
Mohsin Charania

Mohsin Charania has built a massive stack out of the gate thanks to a couple of huge hands.

First, he defended big blind against an open from "fsousa" and they saw a {5-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop. Charania checked, fsousa potted 2,250, Charania potted and fsousa shoved for 30K.

fsousa: {k-Spades}{8-Clubs}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds}
Charania: {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Clubs}

Charania was in a dominating spot with his set and while fsousa improved with the {4-Clubs} turn, the river was a {q-Clubs} for a Charania double.

Two hands later, Charania got in a preflop all in three ways.

Charania: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{3-Clubs}
fsousa: {10-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{8-Spades}{7-Hearts}
"Livia": {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

The {2-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{j-Diamonds} flop was as dreamy as it gets for Charania and he didn't even have to sweat the river after a {5-Spades} turn.

Hellmuth Finds a Dub

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Action folded to the small blind, where "regdebaraio" potted. Phil Hellmuth called and then called a pot-sized bet on the flop for a board of {4-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. regdebaraio shoved for 8,126 effective and Hellmuth called off with {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{8-Hearts} for a straight draw.

Amazingly, he was ahead as regdebaraio was also drawing with {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}, playing queen-high. The {a-Spades} gave Hellmuth a winning pair.

Negreanu Busted

Level 14 : 1,400/2,800, 0 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu raised on the button and called a pot-sized reraise from Antti "Botripper" Nieminen in the small blind. Nieminen potted the {3-Spades}{5-Clubs}{k-Hearts} flop for 42K and called when Negreanu shoved for just under 60K.

Negreanu: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Nieminen: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}

Both were playing ace-king but Nieminen had a gutter and picked up a flush draw on the {8-Spades} turn. That draw came home on the {j-Spades} river.

Alexander "xBGx" Fitasov opened for 75,600 in the small blind and Norbert "ElCabanero" Szecsi called in the big. Both players checked the flop for a board {j-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. Fitasov check-called 75,600. On the {8-Diamonds} river, Fitasov checked again.

Szecsi shoved for 236K and Fitasov called. Szecsi showed {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-Spades} for the bare ace bluff and Fitasov had {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} for jacks up.

Ramos Meets His End

Level 29 : 20,000/40,000, 0 ante
Felipe Ramos
Felipe Ramos

Sean Winter opened under the gun, Laurynas Levinskas called on the button and Felipe Ramos did likewise in the small blind. Joao "naturalMENTE" Simao made it four to the {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} flop and Ramos shoved for 214K.

Levinskas called holding {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for the nut flush draw, while Ramos had {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{7-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for a pair and a straight draw. The sweat was short as a diamond turn left Ramos collecting a payout.

Brutal Turn for Cortes

Level 32 : 35,000/70,000, 0 ante
Jesús Cortes
Jesús Cortes

Joao "naturalMENTE" Simao raised to 154,000 on the button and Jesus Cortes defended the big blind. Simao continued for 113K on the {k-Spades}{9-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop and Cortes made it 525K. Simao jammed for 1.3M more effective and Cortes was in there in a flash with {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for a set.

Simao had {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{4-Spades} for a flush draw and two pair. He smashed the {k-Diamonds} turn to leave Cortes with one out, which failed to come home on the river.

Left with 140K, Cortes busted two hands later.

Antti "Botripper" Nieminen Eliminated in 10th Place ($12,724)

Level 34 : 50,000/100,000, 0 ante
Nieminen elimination
Nieminen elimination

Antti "Botripper" Nieminen got 350,000 of their 451,000 in from the button before calling off the rest against the shove of big blind Laurynas Levinskas.

Levinskas: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Spades}
Nieminen: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Spades}

The {3-Clubs}{8-Spades}{j-Hearts} was a most unwelcome sight for Nieminen, who now needed an ace to survive. The {q-Diamonds} was the turn and the {7-Hearts} river was the last card Nieminen would see in Event #74.
