Australia’s Joshua McCully ran red hot in the final hour to close out Day 1 as the chip leader of Event #16: $1,050 WSOP GGMasters HR Freezeout NLH in the 2021 GGPoker WSOP Online. The $2 million guarantee brought 2,040 entries for a $2,240,000 prize pool, and 37 players will return tomorrow to fight for the WSOP gold bracelet on GGPoker.

The Aussie spent the day in and around the top ten, but it was a burst of cards late that claimed the Day 1 chip lead. Over the course of just a few minutes in Level 31, McCully went from the middle of the pack to a comfortable chip lead after busting Noam "silverplat" Makavy with kings, George Wolff with tens, and Sosia "Aunty_Ninja" Jiang with ace-king. Other players like Samuel Vousden and Qibing "degenkaliu" Wang are still alive after taking a share of the chip lead at one point in the day before McCully took control. They will return tomorrow for a shot at the WSOP gold bracelet.
